Some people think that schools should spend the same amount of time on teaching world history and the history of their own country. Do you agree or disagree with this idea?

I think schools should spend equal amount of time on teaching world history and the history of their own country. Sufficient knowledge about the former helps us develop global perspectives while mastering our national history gives us a sense of recognition and belonging. Although students may not be interested in the same thing, schools could offer various optional courses in order to cater to their own taste. Besides, the fact that schools devote equal amount of resources to both subjects would let students realize the importance of both of them so that they won’t let one outweigh the other. What’s more, they may later discover the connection between these two and the learning of one field could contribute to the understanding of the other.

如果观点是“学校不需要在世界史和国家历史上花等同的时间”，思路可以换一下：即“leave the choice to students”（这时相当于把这类课程当做required courses了）—— 所以，学校应该雇佣professors majoring in different fields & offer various relevant courses，至于学哪一个、由学生自己决定。

此外，也不一定非要school来提供课程：学生如果真的感兴趣的话，they have easy access to various sources，比如网络课程（比如可汗学院）、各种相关书籍、期刊等等
