①觉知不同层次的现实
Awareness of the different layers of reality
能够拥抱多样性和反对意见的领导力暨承认另一个人的现实是有效的。
这意味着,作为领导者的你能认识到现实的不同层次,并接受你的经验与其他人的经验是不同的;这也意味着接受系统性的问题(例如种族主义、父权制、结构性影响)会影响我们所有人,同时对我们有着不同的影响。
它还需要领导者有能力观察到我们经验的3个层次:外部的、内部的和系统的。
Leadership that embraces diversity and opposing views acknowledges another’s reality as valid; it means being aware of different layers of reality and accepting that what you, as leader, experience is different from what other’s experience; it means accepting that the systemic issues –e.g. racism, patriarchy, structural influence– affect us all, and affect us differ- ently. It also requires an ability to observe the 3 layers of our experience: external, internal and systemic.
②选择谦卑
Choosing humility
带着同理心的领导需要领导者松开对权力地位的关切以及假设我们拥有对某一情况或观点的全部知识;
这意味着谦虚地接受自己知识的局限性,同时邀请他人加入到有共识的伙伴关系中,从而扩大领导力在文化、社会和人际上的基础;
这意味着理解而不是对他们的偏见作出被动反应。
Leading empathically requires the leader to relinquish the concerns of status and assumption that we possess full knowledge of a situation or perspective; it means having the humility to accept the limitations of your knowledge while inviting others into a partnership of shared awareness which expands the cultural, social and interpersonal foundations for leadership; it means understanding rather than reacting to their difference.
③怀有耐心和好奇的心态
A patient and curious mindset
好奇心扩大了我们的知识和认识,为了更多人的福祉开发着人的智慧。
好奇心建立了信任;将注意力从平衡时间和任务上变更到连结和临在上。
好奇心意味着要有探究的耐心、学习的开放性和接受的意愿,意味着花时间去聆听。
Curiosity expands our knowledge and awareness: it mines the wisdom of others for the sake of the greater good. It builds trust; it changes the balance of attention from time and task, to connection and presence. Curiosity means having the patience to probe, the openness to learn and the willingness to accept; it means taking the time to listen.
④与持反对意见的人合作
Collaborating with opponents
领导者在作出选择和采取行动时会需要从大量不同和反对意见中找寻方向。
与那些反对我们观点的人合作,即是去承认他们的现实;这意味着发现他们的智慧和经验是塑造集体利益的机会。
领导者与持反对意见的人合作,正是因为能够认识到调动集体知识和经验是为了共同的利益。
Leaders are called to navigate the waters of diversity and opposition as they make choices and take action. Collaborat- ing with those in opposition to our views acknowledges their reality; it means discerning the opportunities for their wisdom and experiences to shape the collective good. Leading through collaborating with your opponents recognizes that mobilizing the collective knowledge and experiences is in service of the common good.
⑤从他人的现状出发来领导
Leading people from where they are
领导者带来变革,他们将人们的思想和行动转为有意图的方向。
带着谦逊、好奇、合作与觉知的领导能让领导者尽可能地接近他人的角度。这意味着领导者要了解对方的角度和他们所占据的空间。
从他人的现状出发来领导能缩小领导者和被领导者之间的距离,从而使重要的转变和行动被看作是可以采取的步骤,而不是艰难的跨越。
Leaders bring about change; they shift people’s thoughts and actions in intentional directions. Leading with humility, curiosity, collaboration and awareness bring the leader closest to the perspectives of the other. This means the leader understands where the other is and the space they occupy. Leading people from where they are diminishes the space between leader and the led so that important shifts and actions are seen as takeable steps rather than leaps.
⑥服务生命与智慧
Serving life and wisdom
领导力是一种召唤,它需要行动的勇气,并承诺于服务;需要聚焦于目标,超越被动反应和指责,寻求和传授智慧。
这包括承担风险和犯错误,且有勇气接受失败,从中学习。它意味着为了更多人的利益而牺牲自己的利益。
服务生命与智慧的领导力是为服务更好的世界而展开的领导,是为服务更大的集体智慧、走向更好未来而展开的学习。
Leadership is a calling. It requires the courage to act in commitment to service; it requires a focus on purpose, rising above reaction and blame to seeking and imparting wisdom. It involves taking risks and making mistakes, and having the courage of accepting failure in service of learning. It means sacrificing self interest for the greater good. Leadership in service of life and wisdom is leading in service of a better world and learning in service of a greater collective wisdom for a better future.
