Police Say Claims of Sexual Abuse at Beijing School Are False

Beijing police announced Tuesday that there is no evidence of sexual molestation at a now-infamous RYB Education kindergarten, Xinhua reports.

The story made international headlines last week after several parents claimed that their children had been sexually abused by teachers, pricked with needles and forced to take unidentified white pills.

One father has since stepped forward and admitted that he coerced his son into saying he was given pills by his teachers, Xinhua reports. A mother also admitted that she made up the story that her daughter had been forced to endure medical checks by naked male doctors.

While there was no evidence of sexual misconduct, police did detain one 22-year-old teacher, surnamed Liu, for allegedly using sewing needles to prod children who would not sleep.

During their investigation, police combed through 113 hours of surveillance footage and found that – aside from Liu’s misconduct – the abuse allegations were unfounded. They did admit, however, that some of the tapes were damaged or missing due to power outages.

The rumors of an alleged molestation ring originated with two women: Liu, 31, and Li, 29. Liu was taken into custody for posting false information on social media, claiming that military soldiers were involved in molesting children at the kindergarten. According to police, the information Liu posted was not true. She was subsequently arrested for "rumor mongering.” Li, on the other hand, received a formal warning by police.

The case is still being investigated by police.
