Welcoming the Year of the Ox with a wonderful performance
As we say goodbye to the Year of the Rat and usher in a new year, it is our annual tradition at Huili Nursery to celebrate with a series of jubilant Chinese New Year performances. In preparation, our teachers made great efforts to select songs that will feature age-appropriate opportunities for each class to learn the language and cultural elements of this most important Chinese festival.
In keeping with our philosophy of bilingual education, teachers chose traditional English and Chinese-language children's songs with similar themes to teach them as well. The English song ‘The Clever Little Cows’ and the Chinese song ‘Guess What Kind of Cow It Is’ are all centred around the theme of the ox, but they have different rhythms. ‘Farewell to the Old Year’ and ‘New Year’s Greeting’ also enabled our pupils to better understand the meaning of New Year festivities in Eastern and Western cultures.
Plenty of our pupils were quite eager to take to the stage as well. During rehearsal, they worked hard, cooperating with one another, pursuing the performance with great passion and enjoyment. They were ultimately proud of their performances, which they could present to their families as a gift in the form of a video.
