Abstract：
This book illustrates recent developments in cartographic studies, seen from a comparative perspective. The different chapters explore various aspects of theoretical and descriptive syntax, bearing on such topics as selection, causativity, binding, light verb constructions, the structure of the high and low peripheral zones. Syntactic issues in the study of dialects and ancient languages are also addressed. The languages investigated include French, Hebrew, Standard Dutch and the Ghent dialect, Etruscan, Japanese, English, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and the Teochew dialect. The intended readers of this book include researchers and students working on natural language syntax, the interface between syntax and semantics/pragmatics, and comparative and typological linguistics, as well as scholars interested in particular languages such as East Asian and Romance languages.

Luigi Rizzi，法国法兰西学院普通语言学首席教授，美国语言学会荣誉会员，英国皇家科学院通讯研究员、欧洲科学院院士，美国艺术与科学院国际荣誉院士、美国国家科学院（国际）院士，他曾在意大利锡耶纳大学和瑞士日内瓦大学担任教授，并曾在美国麻省理工学院、马萨诸塞大学阿默斯特分校、加州大学洛杉矶分校和法国巴黎高等师范大学等多所学校任职。他的研究领域为句法理论、罗曼语和日耳曼语的比较句法及语言习得研究，特别关注儿童形态句法发展，以及局域性理论在语言发展中的作用。
Luigi Rizzi holds the chair of General Linguistics at Collège de France, Paris and is an honorary member of the Linguistic Society of America, a corresponding fellow of the British Academy, a member of Academia Europaea, an honorary international member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an international member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA). Previously, he was a professor at the University of Siena and at the University of Geneva. He also was on the faculty of MIT, UMass Amherst, UCLA, Ecole Normale Supérieure. His research interests include syntactic theory and comparative syntax of Romance and Germanic languages. He also works on language acquisition, with particular reference to the development of morphosyntax, and the role of locality in language acquisition.

司富珍，北京语言大学语言学系教授、博士生导师、博士后合作导师、系主任。句法制图国际研究协会创会会长，句法制图国际研讨会系列会议（两年一度） 发起人。曾在美国麻省理工学院语言学与哲学系乔姆斯基教授指导下做博士后研究工作。近期主要兴趣：句法制图研究，生物语言学及人脑科学与句法制图的接口。
Fuzhen Susan Si, professor of linguistics, is a co-founder and the current director of Department of Linguistics at BLCU. Si is also the founding president of the International Association of Syntactic Cartographic Studies (Macao) and convener of the biannual "International Workshop on Syntactic Cartography". During 2006-2007, Fuzhen Susan Si worked as a post-Doctorial scholar at MIT Department of Linguistics under the supervision of Professor Noam Chomsky. Her current research interests lie in syntactic cartography, biolinguistics and human brain sciences and their interfaces.
