Richard Williams, aka Prince Ea, is anamazing spoken word artist who helps make people aware of their lives andsurroundings. With his videos, he reminds us that we can make a difference. Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, today ontrial we have modern day schooling.

Glad you could come.

Not only does he make fish climb trees butalso makes them climb down and do a 10 mile run.

Tell me school, are you proud of the thingsyou've done?

Turning millions of people into robots, doyou find that fun?

But with evidence like that I must ask.

I did a background check on you and let therecords show that you were made to train people to work in factories.

But today we don't need to make robotzombies.

The world has progressed and now we needpeople who think creatively, innovatively, critically, independently with theability to connect.

 

社会在进步,现在我们需要的是思考上有创意,有新意,有批判性,能独立,能够创造连结的人才。

 

See every scientist will tell you that notwo brains are the same.

 

每位科学家都会告诉你每个人的大脑都是独一无二的。


 

And every parent with two or more childrenwill confirm that claim.

 

而每一对拥有2个或者更多孩子的父母都能证明这点。

 

So please explain why you treat studentslike cookie cutter frames or snapback hats.

 

所以,请你告诉我,为什么你们把学生当成是饼干模具或者是后扣帽。

 

Giving them this 'one size fits all' crap.

What if a doctor prescribe the exact samemedicine to all of his patients. . The results would be tragic.

So many people would get sick yet.

When it's comes to school, this is exactlywhat happens.

This. . . educational malpractice.

Where one teacher stands in front of 20kids, each one having different strengths, different needs, different gifts,different dreams.

And you teach the same thing the same way?That's horrific!

I mean teachers have the most important jobon the planet yet they're under paid?

 

教师可以说是社会上最重要的工作,但他们却未得到相应的薪资。

 

No wonder so many students are shortchanged.

 

难怪学生也没获得应有的教育。

 

Let's be honest.

 

让我们诚实一点。

 

Teachers should earn just as much asdoctors.

 

教师的薪资应该跟医生一样高。

 

Because a doctor can do you heart surgery,and save the life of a kid.

 

因为医生能够动心脏手术拯救孩子的生命。

 

What a great teacher can reach the heart ofthat kid and allow him to truly live.

 

而好的老师能够触碰到孩子的内心,让他活出自己的生命。

 

See teachers are heroes that often getblamed but they're not the problem.

 

教师是常被责难的英雄,但问题不是出在他们。

 

They work in a system without many optionor rights.

 

他们是在没有太多选择或权利的体制下工作。

 

Curriculums are created by policy makers.

 

学校课程都是由政策制定者制定的。

 

Most of which have never taught a day intheir life.

Just obsessed with standardized tests. . .they think bubbling in a multiple choice question will determine success.

That's outlandish.

In fact these tests are too crude to beused, and should be abandoned.

And if we can customize healthcare, cars,and Facebook pages, then it is our duty to do the same for education.

To upgrade it. Change it.

Do away with school spirit, cos that'suseless.

Unless we are working to bring the spiritout of each and every student.

That should be our task.

No more common core, instead. . . Let'sreach the core of every heart in every class.

 

不要再"共同核心标准了",深入每个学童的内心才是我们该做的。

 

Sure math is important, but no more thenart or dance.

 

数学固然重要,但艺术与舞蹈也同等重要。

 

Let's give every gift an equal chance.

 

平等对待每一种天赋才能。

 

I know this sounds like a dream butcountries like Finland are doing impressive things. They have shorter schooldays.

 

我知道这听起来痴人说梦,但芬兰等国家便已拥有了了不起的教育制度。他们的授课日数短。

 

Teachers make decent wage.

 

教师的薪资较合理。

 

Homework is non-existent and they focus oncollaboration instead of competition.

 

没有家庭作业,他们注重的是合作,而不是竞争。

 

But there's the kicker boys and girls.

 

但是出人意外的是。

 

Their educational system outperforms everyother country in the world.

 

他们的教育体制带来的成效比全世界任何一个国家都要好。

 

Other places like Singapore are succeedingrapidly.

 

其他国家像是新加坡也正在快速崛起。

 

Schools like Montessori. Programs like KhanAcademy.

 

蒙特梭利学校。可汗学院计划。

 

There is no single solution, but let's getmoving.

 

没有单一的解决之道,但让我们向前进吧。

 

Because while students may be 20% of ourpopulation.

 

因为学生虽然只占总人口的百分之二十。

 

They are 100% of our future.

 

他们是这个社会未来的百分之百。

 

So let's attend to their dreams and there'sno telling what we can achieve.

 

让我们呵护他们的梦想,即使未来不可捉摸。

 

This is a world in which I believe. . . Aworld where fish are no longer forced to climb trees.

每个人都是天才(节选)

1、原本他应该得“丙”

 

大学毕业的第一年,我回到母校教书。有一天,改学生的书法,发现有个学生写得又黑又脏,但是笔墨纵肆,有一种特别的味道。

 

我举着朱砂毛笔,看了又看,不知怎么给分数。论“规矩”,他的字实在太乱;论“气韵”,他的字又别有一种“丰神”。

 

最后,我批了“甲下”。

 

书法作业簿发下去了,我看到那学生眼睛瞪着自己的成绩,露出难以置信的表情。也见到他旁边同学的奇怪反应。我猜想:他们一定认为我这个导师乱批。

 

于是我对全班说:“某同学的书法,以一般的标准来看,我应该给他丙,但是我发觉他的字里有一种特别的力量。大家要知道,字写得漂亮不难,但是写得自成一家,别有风骨,就不容易了。凡是成功的书法家,必定都因为他能写出与众不同的味道。”

 

然后,我把那学生叫到桌前:“你下次只控制自己的笔,不要写出框子,就会好多了。你想想,一个有才气的人,如果又能约束自己,脚踏实地地学,当然容易成功。”

 

我相信,那时候班上每个学生都看到了,他一天天进步,一天天收束。他的本子不再又脏又烂,他的字不再横涂竖抹。最后,他居然能代表班上参加书法比赛。

 

如果有一天,他成为名书法家,我一点也不会诧异。当然,我也可能对自己的“识才”而沾沾自喜。


 

2、识才的老师,能把每个学生调教成天才

 

识才的老师,能把每个学生调教成天才!

 

对的!调教成天才!

 

因为每个学生都是独立的个体,也就都有他不同的气质,只要你细细观察,即使看来驽钝的孩子,都有他杰出的一面。

 

把那一面找出来,夸赞他、鼓励他,你会发现那学生先会惊讶,不信自己有这才能,经过你分析,他开始接受、开始发挥、见出成绩,于是有了更大的信心。

 

一个好的老师,足以廉顽立懦,改变人的一生啊!

 

3、你是自己的好老师

 

读王鼎钧先生的回忆录《怒目少年》,看到许多“好老师”与“坏老师”的影子与影响,也看到王先生的一段话——

 

“没有好的家世,只要有好的学校;没有好的学校,只要有好的老师;没有好的老师,只要有上进的志气!”

 

我要把王鼎钧先生的这段金言送给每个学生,而且对大家说:

 

如果你没遇上好老师,没关系!不要怨!你可以假设你自己是好老师,从自己的身上发现各种优点,然后发挥自己、鼓励自己、肯定自己、完成自己!

 

你要相信,上天给每个人一份天才,只是它藏在某个角落,等着你的老师、你的长官、或是你自己,把它发掘发来。

 

藏在你家中的宝藏,当然该由你自己最先发掘,对不对?
