Dating Scene in Beijing: Jing-A Brewpub
Looking for a great date spot or fun beer themed events in Beijing?
Jing-A Brewpub is well-known in the Beijing community for delicious brews, great brewpub locations, and exciting events such as tap takeovers, Keg Egg tours, and their famous 8x8 Beer Festival. There are two Jing-A locations in Beijing, the Jing-A Brewpub Xingfucun and the Jing-A Taproom Longfusi.
Check out why Jing-A's two locations make great date spots and what their upcoming events are!
1. Our Date Night China followers voted Jing-A as one of the top 10 bars in Beijing to go to for a first date! What makes Jing-A a unique and popular brewpub in Beijing?
Oh, that’s awesome. We’d love to see if we made the list for the best bars to go to on a SECOND date!
Jing-A is a labor of love. We’re a brewery in constant motion – hunting down rare ingredients for a new beer, looking around for collaborations and partnerships, speaking to our community constantly, and most importantly – listening and improving.
We don’t always get it right, but we want to hit that tricky balance of ensuring consistency – making each visit a signature “Jing-A” experience – and mixing things up so every visit brings something new.
2. Tell us about the 2 Brewpub locations in Beijing. What are their overall vibes like and what makes them great date spots?
京A Brewpub Xingfucun:
Xingfucun is really special to us – it’s home base.
What we love about it is how it has different areas for different kinds of moods and meet-ups. There’s the quiet, intimate back-bar – neon-lit with cocktails on tap. The couches for raucous debriefs with friends about good (or bad) dates. The warm light of the front area where you can soak in the sun. The central hallway with the string lights. A lot of dates happen in the central room with the taps and the bar counter, where you can stand side-by-side or sit close around a corner table.
京A Taproom Longfusi:
Longfusi is bright and summery and bold and fun – the extrovert to Xingfucun’s introversion. It has pizzas and outdoor courtyard seating and a playlist with a bit more wild groove. Longfusi can get raucous and elevate every date to a party.
3. Are there opportunities at Jing-A to meet new people in the Beijing community?
We hope so! We support a ton of community events – everything from fitness classes over the weekend outside Longfusi and a running club that meets at Xingfucun to punk rock shows and “sip and scribbles”, which feature illustrators who meet up and draw over beers!
Last month we did a circuit around Beijing in our “keg egg” car in support of the Beijing LGBT Center, and on Saturday August 1 we had a summer campout with marshmallow-inspired beer. In October we throw a big beer festival featuring 16 breweries and 140 beers! There’s something for everyone, and we try and bring together people who may not normally meet in their usual professional circles.
4. Do you see people on dates at Jing-A?
Yes, very often! We’ve often accidentally crashed our own colleagues’ dates.
Our favourite date story is what we’ve taken to calling the “Sweet Potato Girl” – she left this as a (five-star) review on our Dianping page and it’s one of our favourite Jing-A tales.
She first came to Jing-A on a date night around 5 years ago, at the original 1949 Sanlitun location. She’d been away on a business trip for a few months and was excited to see him, but he said he’d found true love elsewhere and broke up with her on the spot. Then left.
Stunned, and devastated, she ordered a portion of sweet potato fries and ate them slowly. She ordered a second portion (with double dipping sauce) and by the time she was done with that, she felt better.
5 years later, she orders the sweet potato fries again at our Longfusi location, and it prompts her beautifully written review: “The Sweet Potato fries were proof that my life could continue, that it wasn’t destroyed... ...That everything, every problem, could be thought through in the time it takes to eat two large portions.”
5. What other events does Jing-A have in Beijing?
SO. MANY. We have something going on almost every week! Plus we have a new location opening soon in the CBD’s Kerry Center which is *perfect* for dates!
Here’s some quick highlights of what’s coming up:
Kitchen Takeovers (we’re thinking Yunnan food, crawfish boils, and more tbc)
Tap takeovers featuring breweries from the south of China, coming later in August!
Our beloved 8x8 Beer Festival in October!
A Keg Egg tour in advance of the opening of our CBD location!
6. Any special Summer brews people should try now?
Yes! Three that are particularly great for dates:
Our new Get Toasted pale stout with hints of marshmallow, coffee and chocolate
The Beijing Bikini Watermelon Wheat – a classic, mellow crowd-pleaser
Forbidden Ops – a beautifully complex stout brewed with Chinese black rice
