June 7 - 11: Date Night China Online Spirit Week
If you’re an OG fan of Date Night China you’ll remember that when we launched season 1 of the podcast, we held weekly discussions in our first WeChat group to help focus our community on the topic of the week. Some chats were funny, rude, sexy, serious, emotional and often entertaining enough to keep you lurking in the background, even if you didn’t feel impelled to speak.
Our move to create dating events in Beijing was our genuine effort to provide a space for people to meet and find love and friendship, and we modestly believe that we’ve tried our best to do that and we’re excited about our upcoming events for 2021.
That being said – we know you live online, heck, WE live online. It’s our go-to place when we’re on the subway, waiting for a friend at our favorite coffee house, or sat on the toilet, killing time before the end of the day – I know you do it! So we’re very excited to launch our first Spirit week!
What is a spirit week?
Please keep in mind that I am British, and the term “spirit week” didn’t mean anything to me until my lovely American friends told me that it’s usually associated with high schools rallying studunts before big sports events. Spirit week usually involves different planned activities and social gatherings and I am told at least one pajama themed day – always.
“But you’re doing an online spirit week, how will you know If I’m wearing pajamas?” I hear you ask. Luckily, you can wear whatever you like, that’s the beauty of it. All we ask that you get involved!
Why are we holding an online spirit week?
We are really appreciative and thankful for our online community who follow our account, social media platforms and members of our two WeChat groups.
However, we realize that sometimes it’s not always easy to get your voices heard. Maybe you’re shy, maybe you’re busy, maybe certain members won’t stop typing long enough to give anyone else a chance to contribute – who knows? But we care that you are a part of the conversation and we’re having conversations that matter to you!
How to participate in the online week
First, join one of the DNC WeChat groups, where all the discussions and contests will happen.

Join us for a live chat up hour in the WeChat group with a special guest! We’ll be chatting about LGBTQ+experiences and stories in China.

Share your cringiest date story. Winner receives 100 RMB cash prize + free ticket tothe DNC Picnic Mixer.
Finally, every day this week we will post Lunch Listens. Every day at 12PM we will be sending out a link to a podcast episode from season 2.
