Introduction of Speaker：

Prof. Francis Gurry is the former Director-General of WIPO. He led a comprehensive organizational change program that aligned WIPO's programs, resources and structure with the redefined strategic goals.These measures included managing the pressure on the international patent and copyright system due to rapid technological changes, globalization and increasing demand; reducing the knowledge gap between developed and developing countries; and ensuring that the intellectual property (IP) system serves its fundamental purpose of promoting national creativity and innovation.

Brief introduction to the lecture:

Straight after the first part in a series of lectures provided by Prof. Gurry in Dec. 2021 at Tongji University, i.e., “Historical Development of International Cooperation in IP”, this time,it will cover the mechanics of inter-national cooperation in IP by looking at the main organizations, involved multilaterally, regionally and plurilaterally and how they interact, the political groupings at the multilateral level, and the framework of multilateral treaties on IP.
