Gatto Matto pizza has now joined forces with a kebab restaurant and expanded into a new and larger location just next to its original shop on Huanggushan Road. You can find the same huge pizzas that made Gatto Matto so popular, along with pasta, salads, chicken or lamb kebabs, shawarma, hummus and dips.

We’re always on the look-out for restaurants that serve tasty middle-eastern food like kebab, shawarma and hummus, so it was good news when we heard from an old contact that he re-opened his shawarma restaurant (formerly M2-Tiba restaurant on Xix Road) and this time in co-operation with another popular restaurant Gatto Matto pizza.

The newly combined Gatto Matto Pizza & Kebab restaurant sits just next to the original Gatto Matto shop on Huanggushan Road. The dining area is almost 3 times the size of the original and can sit many more customers. They offer an expanded pizza, pasta and salad menu as well as a halal menu for the middle-eastern food.

The pizza comes in 2 sizes and ranges from 48RMB for a small White Pizza Pesto with hand-made pesto to 125RMB for a large Meat Lovers pizza with smoked ham, salami and Spanish sausage. For the pastas, you can get a large serving starting from 28RMB for Carbonara up to 35RMB for the Mediterranean pasta, which contains a healthy mix of artichokes, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese and pesto sauce.

The middle-eastern menu features lamb or chicken kebabs (25-30RMB), chicken shawarma and falafel (20RMB) and chicken or lamb Toshka (40-45RMB). A Toshka is an Arabic flat bread stuffed with meat and cheese, kind of like a quesadilla.

Each night of the week, they offer a special meal from 50-55RMB, and you can usually find a substantial dish of meat and vegetables cooked in spices, yogurt and served with rice.

Don’t forget to order an appetizer dip such as Hummus or Moutabal (20RMB each). We especially liked the Moutabal, a smooth eggplant dip that was very tasty with the flavours of garlic and lemon.

At the end of the meal, you can also try some of their desserts, such as Nutella banana pancake or baklava – thin phyllo sheets drenched in honey and butter with a combination of nuts.

Drinks include soft drinks (8-25RMB), beers (15-30RMB), wine (30RMB a glass) and cocktails (25-35RMB). Smoking permitted inside and shishas also available.
