An Indian restaurant that seeks to promote Indian culture in China through not only food, but also music, Bollywood dancing and yoga. The large picture menu makes it easy for anyone to order and there are dishes to suit everyone’s tastes, from naan, biryani, curries, tandoori to soups and salads. Lalqila is located on the 4th floor of Baolong City Plaza mall in Binjiang.

A new Indian restaurant comes to Binjiang, at Baolong City Plaza mall near the intersection of Binsheng Road and Huoju Avenue. Lalqila is an Indian chain restaurant that has been very successful in China. Besides this location in Binjiang, they have other branches in Xi'an, Beijing and Sichuan province.

Lalqila aims to be more than an Indian restaurant and they will organize social and cultural activities to share Indian culture, such as yoga classes. Bollywood music videos play on a large screen throughout the day and live dance performances will occur at lunch and dinner times to delight and entertain customers.

The menu makes it easy to order as every dish is accompanied by a photo. You’ll find perennial favourites such as naan (10-19RMB), biryani (38-48RMB), grilled tandoori items, Butter Chicken (58RMB), Lamb Roganjosh (62RMB) and Beef Vindaloo (62RMB).

There’s a selection of seafood curries and biryani too and also some lighter dishes like Sauteed Spinach (38RMB), Sauteed Brocoli (38RMB), soups and salads.

If you want to eat authentic Indian flavours, be sure to tell your waiter when you place your order, otherwise the food will be made to suit Chinese tastes. We had a couple of dishes the way they normally prepare it and then we had some dishes made the Indian way. The difference was immense. It was like we were at first watching a silent black and white movie, then the spiced-up Indian version bursts onto the scene exploding with Technicolor and Dolby surround sound. 

▲ Baingan Bharta & Chicken Curry

The Baingan Bharta (42RMB), a roasted eggplant curry, was robustly flavoured with garlic, ginger, turmeric, cumin, coriander, etc. all the bold flavours you love from Indian curries. The Chicken Curry (52RMB) carried a lot of heat with sliced fresh chilies and a richly spiced sauce.
