ELEMENT FRESH - The Freshness in the Hot Summer
We’ve seen many restaurant chains that first started in Shanghai and then slowly made their way to Hangzhou. None other has been more anticipated than the arrival of Element Fresh. Their first restaurant opened in 2002 and soon grew to multiple locations around Shanghai serving fresh, healthy and tasty salads, sandwiches, pastas, Asian creations, juices and smoothies. Their restaurants have a bright and airy atmosphere and being there just makes you feel happy. Even expats in other cities began to know about them as a great place to go for solid western quality food. Every time I visited Shanghai I would try to fit in a meal at Element Fresh.
No need to go to Shanghai any more, as we now have our own Element Fresh at Mixc mall. We are very happy to report that the food at the Hangzhou branch is just as good as what we’ve had before in Shanghai. You can order just about anything from the menu and it wouldn’t disappoint.
We started with Home-made Hummus (68RMB) with olives, fresh veggies and whole wheat pita bread and Vietnamese Spring Rolls (58RMB) with mango and prawn.
Salads here are substantial enough to be a meal. The Shrimp and Papaya Salad (78RMB) was spiced with lively Thai flavours. The Classic Cobb Salad (92RMB) was a rainbow of chopped chicken, bacon, tomato, avocado and hard-boiled egg served with Thousand Island dressing.
Clam Pasta with Cream and Pesto (78RMB) was a delicious combination of pasta shells, clams, bacon, leeks, vermouth, cream, roasted garlic and pesto.
To emphasize the healthiness of their food, Element Fresh has collaborated with Chinese tennis champion Li Na to create the “Vitality with Li Na” series of healthy drinks and food. We ordered the Fire and Ice Tuna (128RMB) and it was a hit with everyone at the table due to its vibrant colours and fresh unusual taste from the spicy medium rare grilled tuna with wasabi mayo, the wasabi vinaigrette salad and the kombu potato salad with shiso and sesame.
Element Fresh is a little on the pricy side, but they have a member rewards card to sweeten the deal. Collect points with every meal to reimburse for food and merchandise. Non-smoking inside but there is a large outdoor patio where smoking is allowed.
