From now until the end of October, Sheraton Grand Hangzhou Binjiang Hotel is presenting a Maserati themed afternoon tea set. Just as the Maserati luxury car brand brings to mind elegance, style, sportiness and performance, this afternoon tea set seeks to bring you a similar sense of enjoyment.

Chef Amy, Sheraton Grand’s talented pastry chef, has created some delightful pieces to represent the sportiness and elegance of Maserati. Realistic items like a pair of car tires made of sugar and a lipstick made of chocolate. The lipstick is in a glossy, bright red shade and you can actually twist the lipstick holder to bring up the chocolate lipstick. Indeed, every young lady I showed this lipstick to was surprised by how much it looked like a real lipstick!

Of the savoury selections in this afternoon tea, there was a Vegetable Scone and a Pastrami Sandwich. The vegetable scone is an interesting change from the usual fruit based or sweet scones. It packs plenty of healthy vegetables in it, like spinach, carrots and pumpkin for nutrients and fiber. Plus there’s red pepper for a touch of spiciness.

The sandwich has thin slices of black pepper crusted pastrami with a light dressing of mayo. The whole sandwich is wrapped in a thin egg crepe and tied with a ribbon of black nori seaweed for extra umami.

Hazelnut Apricot Jelly Cake is made with a high concentration of hazelnut powder to replace normal flour. This results in a cake with a nuttier taste and texture.

In the Fruit tart, you can taste the high quality vanilla in the eggy creamy custard. The tart is topped with glazed fresh fruit and sits in a short crust pastry.

The Cheesecake is made with imported American cream cheese and whereas usual cheesecakes have over 50% cream cheese, this one has around 43% cream cheese to be lighter and less fattening.

Overall, this afternoon tea set is very suitable for ladies or couples to enjoy and costs only 258RMB for the 2 person set. Purchase through the hotel’s official WeChat store for a special discount price of 188RMB (2 person set). The afternoon tea set comes with cappuccino, green tea or earl grey tea and is served in the Lobby Lounge on the ground floor. Guests can enjoy the relaxing melody of live guzheng performoances while sitting in a calming lounge that is decorated to resemble a bamboo forest.
