Any legendary music scene such as Dublin’s live music scene, Sunset strip’s rock scene or Seattle’s alternative music scene was not built on international artists flying in and fans paying big amounts to see them.
Scenes were built when the communities got together. People who cared for good music supported the promoters and musicians. They're respected because locals- people and musicians joined forces to drive the scene in the right direction and take it where it is today. So come support your local artists and promoters if you care for the scene. (even if you don't care much for the scene, come, because we know how to throw a party)
It has been quite difficult to experience real concerts in Hangzhou in the last several years. And it does not seem to become any easier in the future either. The high prices, regulations, the lack of proper venues make Hangzhou a less-than-ideal place for bands to show their talents.
FreeSouls Record and the Azure Rooftop guys decided to change it: they are organizing an event in the name of proper live-music and they will bring you Hangzhou’s very own and very best Chinese and foreigner bands. 5 bands will play their souls out with styles ranging from Blues and Funk, to Ska, Punk and all sorts of Rock. Get ready for a night of musical explosion!
- Ghost Flag / 7:30pm -
‘What the hell is Ghost Flag?’ - You may wonder. Well, we bet you know them: the public knows them as “the Eudora guys”, but in fact, the musicians of Ghost Flag are simply the best multitalented, foreign musicians here in Hangzhou. We don’t get a lot of chances to hear Rey, Paul and Jair play their original songs in this unique formation so you better not miss this funky-rocky craziness!
- Bricks (板砖乐队) / 8:30pm -
Bricks is undoubtedly one of the strongest, most well-known Ska bands in Hangzhou. Since it was founded in 2001, Bricks has been able to penetrate into the true power that made this great era: the pain and joy of the laid-off people at the grass-roots level, with the special keenness and sincerity of a truly people-owned band.
Bricks is a glorious emotional course and path for the angry youth, for the outsiders and rebels who refuse the mainstream in Hangzhou in the new era.
- Five Flavours Band (五味子) / 9:30pm -
Five Flavours Band was formed in 2017 and they bring traditional but ever-green values to the music scene in Hangzhou. Focusing on Blues, the band combines traditional Rock with aesthetic retro Garage Rock, providing a rare taste. They are a sound of blues, mixed with sweat, alcohol, dark skin and tragic, bizarre fate. Their music is straightforward and profound, simple but encompassing. It is an attitude, a language to express emotions.
Five pills, five flavours, five good people, each with a devil soul mix the joys and sorrows of live with the blues to make a powerful medicine.
- Psych Lips (普赛克嘴唇) / 10:30pm -
Veteran Hangzhou-based rockers, Carlos and Edgar (both from Mexico) formed Psych Lips in 2014 to showcase their extraordinary talent and passion to the people of Hangzhou. They have been playing their mixed sound of Rock, Funk and Grunge all over China (Hangzhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, Beijing, Wenzhou…), performing for big and small crowds in all kind of venues.
The variety of styles that Psych Lips plays and their concept of involving visuals in the show create a unique performance to the listener. When Psych Lips plays, music and visuals come together to create a beautiful madness of Rock, Funk and Grunge.
- Magic People Band / 11:30pm -
Formed just last year in 2018, Magic People Band had a huge kick off: they won the 2nd Battle of the Bands in December and proved that Russian Rock has a well-deserved place in Hangzhou.
Magic People Band’s main purpose is clear and simple: creating music that is unique, fun and great to move to. The range of musical instruments, styles (Ska, Rock, Funk etc.) and skills combine to give a blast of Russian-Rock that is pure musical magic!
- After Party: The Pit -
The Pit is Hangzhou's most radical alternative music party. Started by a foreigner DJ-duo to break the city out from the mainstream RnB and EDM era, it has turned into a monthly event attracting all the people with Rock in their hearts. Get ready to lose your mind and sing your heart out to your favourite rock/punk/metal/indie bangers!
Apart from the 5 mind-blowing gigs and the afterparty, you’ll have a chance to participate in pool, foosball, and beer-pong competitions! There’s limited spots to participate in the competitions. If you wish to register, add the WeChat ID “lasadam”.
Snecklifter will be hosted by one of our favorite Punk rockers- Jared Thompson
This event was specifically created for the celebration and support of Hangzhou-based bands, and to show that there’s more to Hangzhou’s night life that club music!
