Don’t have motivation to go workout? Tired of running alone? Bored of lifting all those weights in the gym? And got too many injuries from CrossFit? Here comes boxing to shake up your work-out routine!

Benefits of Boxing 🥊

Boxing is a truly fantastic sport and it isn’t just for those giant beasts of men that you see on television. Boxing is a sport that everybody can participate in and that makes a huge difference. Of course, you don’t actually have to step in the ring in the form of competitive boxing. We realize that not everybody wants to fight other people for fun, not to mention that taking a few shots to the noggin can definitely hurt your brain, but you can always box for fun and you can definitely engage in all of the training that comes with it.

There's a reason why boxing is the workout of choice for so many celebs and models. Not only is fighting a strength and cardio workout in one, it's the best way to get in tune with your inner badass.

The boxing workout is great for fat loss. Almost every boxing exercise will make you sweat. No matter if you're doing heavy bag work, mitt work, jumping rope, sparring, push-ups or even shadowboxing, you're going to burn calories. You can lose 3-4 pounds in a single workout if it's intense enough. The main physical benefit beginner boxers will see is cardiovascular since boxing improves your resting heart rate and muscular endurance. That lowered resting heart rate and increased stamina can give you an edge in your other workouts.

With a potential burn rate of 13 calories a minute, boxing goes head-to-head with other types of cardio like running and cycling. Plan to punch away anywhere from 200 to 400 calories (for a 140-pound individual) per half hour. Thirty minutes of boxing in a ring torches 400 calories; 30 minutes of punching a bag vaporizes 200 calories.

And now we’re getting to the point, Do You Rumble?

What Is Rumble Boxing? 🥊

Rumble is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), strength training, metabolic conditioning (METCON), and uppercut throwing cardio all combined in one clean class.

Rumble was founded by entrepreneur Andy Stenzler, who co-founded Cosi and Kidville; Eugene Remm, a nightclub guru, restaurateur and Rumble’s chief brand officer; Noah Neiman, former Barry’s Bootcamp master trainer and a Bravo “Work Out New York” star; and Anthony DiMarco, an 11-time Ironman competitor and former managing director at Google. It’s been said that Rumble is the ‘next big thing’ and that they are uniquely positioned to help shepherd and expedite its growth.

Rumble’s workouts are built around a 45-minute full-body strength-training and conditioning class that features teardrop-shaped, water-filled punching bags (designed not to hurt wrists or other joints), and moves to floor workouts with weights before going back to the punching bags — with inspiring hip-hop and house music mixed with “classics” from Biggie Smalls to the Fugees.

We Tried It: The Rumble Boxing Workout Kendall Jenner, David Beckham and Selena Gomez Love 🥊

This class is a challenge from start to finish! We were dripping in sweat and our muscles were on fire, but the beauty of it is that you can go at your own pace. And NO prior boxing experience needed!

Once you check in and get your glossy custom white gloves and wraps, you head inside the dimly lit room to warm up and start throwing punches. Coach Shield, who studied in US and speaks fluent English, will guide you through every step.

We love the darkness for two reasons: 1. You get in there and get in the zone. No one cares about what the person next to them is doing, even if it’s Selena Gomez… it’s all about putting in the work without having to think about what you look like. 2. The lighting system is timed perfectly with the music so you feel like you’re dancing at LIV Miami. When that red light hits you, it’s hard not to turn it up.

And then, of course, there’s the reputation of Rumble Boxing itself. It’s known for attracting celebrities (Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, David Beckham, and — based on Rumble’s Instagram — an absurd number of models) in New York and Los Angeles. Now, we’re getting a taste of that celebrity-endorsed life with our own Rumble Boxing Hardcore Man Boxing studio in Hangzhou.

We swung by for a class on opening day to see if it would live up to the hype, and it didn’t disappoint. Hardcore Man Boxing is located on the 3rd floor of Gemini Mansion in Binjiang. Once you arrive, you’ll see the night club styled studio in black and red.

The studio itself is outfitted with intense sound systems, screens, and lighting (we’re talking black lights, which add some serious dramatic effects) that make the workout experience fully immersive. The water-filled punching bags are from AQUABAG, it costs 3,000RMB each, and there are 37 of them.

There is also a dedicated heart rate meter to record the calories that you’ve burned. The calories burned per lesson will be uploaded directly to the big screen so you can see how much fat you’ve lost in one class.

The locker rooms — slick, pristine white spaces — have all the amenities you’ll need to freshen up after class, including shower gel, shampoo, cotton pads, and even Dyson hairdryers.

After the class, you can enjoy a healthy meal at the reception that has less than 300 calories and costs 30RMB.

We were promised a high-end boutique studio, and that’s exactly what we got.

As for the workout itself, it’s honestly the most beginner-friendly of all the new boxing workouts. The class is 45 mins and the courses are divided into different training intensities (low, medium, and high), from warming up, to weights, to boxing training. The whole studio is filled with hanging aqua bags. Rumble’s teardrop-shaped, water-filled punching bags AQUABAG takes the place of traditional heavy bags.

Overall, the class is a high-energy, upbeat, music-fueled, sweaty good time. (Oh, and you will be sore. Three days later and our abs are still feeling it.)

After experiencing Rumble myself, now I know why the members and trainers look as great as they do. It was an amazing workout with entertaining trainers and an all around awesome time. Rumble: Celebrity tested, MORE Hangzhou Approved.
