I went to the charming Yuan Café this week, on western Wenyi Road, just north of Xixi Wetlands in the Xixi Shouzuo Complex. It’s a charming cafe/bar with some excellent food and insane deals. Let me lead with the craziest one: spend 100 RMB on anything at dinnertime on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and you get free flowing booze to go with it—anything on the drink list save for Hoegaarden—for two hours.

这周我们去的元咖啡位于文一西路紫霞街的西溪首座，每周五，周六，周日晚上消费满100元可以享受酒单上任意酒水免费畅饮2小时！现在周末意见开启，赶紧约上酒肉朋友一起来吧！

I sampled a broad spectrum of their foods, and they range from humble salads—honestly my favorite—to the grandiose tomahawk steak (I have nothing to compensate for!)

Let’s start with the basics, I would highly recommend you treat Yuan Café as an extremely good salad and sandwich stop, easily comparable to my other favorite places in this regard in terms of flavor and quality, and priced very nicely for how filling they are. My favorite of their sandwiches was the Cajun Chicken Panini (48RMB). We ordered such an enormous quantity of food that I didn’t want to ruin my appetite for the rest so I only had a few bites initially, but over the course of the meal it somehow disappeared, I don’t know what happened.

不管是中餐或晚餐，元咖啡都是很不错的一个休息站。我们最喜欢的这道菜还是这个卡真辣鸡帕尼尼，吃过好几次了，仍然每次都觉得惊艳，48元的良心价没有可比性。烤的香脆的帕尼尼包裹着牛油果、生菜、番茄、蛋黄酱和用卡真等香料腌制的鸡胸肉，满满一大口下去，味蕾和心都得到了极大的满足。

A very pleasant surprise was the Chef Salad (45RMB), a really fantastic FANTASTIC salad, with orange slices, goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and an oddly robust and almost creamy vinaigrette dressing; for something without meat, I did not expect this to be as satisfying and filling as it was. Also if I may: I hate the name “Chef Salad”, a boring name that doesn’t do this hidden gem any justice, and only likely serves to keep it hidden. Order this!

也许招牌沙拉这个名字非常波澜不惊，也许是我们被失望太多次，使得看见招牌沙拉也没有半点冲动，但是直到用叉子放入第一口的那一刻，我们编辑韩非的眼中出现了星光，橄榄油混合着橙汁的香味，“这个沙拉应该改名”，他激动地叫到！希腊羊奶酪，晒干的西红柿，橙肉，还有一种奇怪的，几乎是奶油味的调味汁，这也太好吃了，我可以中午只吃这一盘！

Another favorite of mine was the Chicken Shrimp Quesadillas (45RMB), an extremely pleasantly… how do I put this, clean and lightly flavored dish. Normally a quesadilla is like a guilty, easy-greasy pleasure, but this defied convention in a really good way, non greasy, just light yet filling. This was simply a really—to reiterate—*pleasant* dish that I’d absolutely go back to have again, paired with the Chef Salad.

Skipping to the top end of the menu, if you’ve got some coin to drop, their Australian Tomahawk Steak (238RMB) is a 450g treat that you should p-p-probably share with a friend. likewise with their 500g BBQ King Ribs (118RMB). I ended up taking both of these home for later.

你要是兜里还有点钱，这两道主菜你得点上。450克的澳洲谷饲战斧牛排配烤时蔬肥瘦配比刚好，煎到五成熟，端上来时那浓浓的肉香，我们在心里狠狠的咽了下口水。切开能看见一丝血水，放入口中轻轻一嚼，满嘴肉香！用纸巾擦一下嘴，是时候品尝美式烤猪肋排了，烧烤酱调配的非常入味，肋排低温慢煮数十小时，刀叉一入，肉便轻轻的脱落下来，用手拿起一根，舔舐完上面的肉，还不忘吮指回味无穷！

Finally, they have some fantastic deals on drinks here. As I indicated, Yuan Café also has a bar and the prices on their cocktails are low low low. I’ve been going no-alcohol this week, but I cheated a bit with a few sips of their Mojito (32RMB, an absolute steal!), and by the way, an old person healthy trick: always order your mojito with low or no sugar, it retains all the mint and lime, and rum itself is sweet; if anything, it’s even more refreshing than a standard mojito, and while you’re at it, during Happy Hour from 4pm to 7pm you can buy one drink and get another for free: 16RMB mojitos anyone? 

他们的酒水真是出奇的便宜，要想买醉来这儿就对了。一杯莫吉托才32元，每天下午4点到7点还有欢乐时光，这三小时内，所有酒水买一送一，这样一杯莫吉托才16元！

Of course, there’s more to say about this place than I could fit here, and we ordered more than I could properly enjoy! Some of the other things we enjoyed: their Mexican Pizza and Vegetarian Pizza (68RMB each), Chicken Avocado Burger, and their (not on the menu, gotta ask for them Beef Skewers (78RMB for four), which had ENORMOUS chunks of steak on them. Yuan Café is conveniently located on the western side of town, if you’re a student at Zijingang Campus or any of the nearby universities, I can’t recommend coming here enough, particularly to abuse that dinnertime free flow deal!

这天我们吃到扶墙出，韩非坚持啃完了一个鸡肉牛油果汉堡，我喜欢牛肉蔬菜串，大块的牛肉和洋葱红椒，连吃三串后还打包了墨西哥牛肉披萨和经典素食披萨。如果你平时在城西一带出没比较多的话，元咖啡是值得一探的地方，地址在文末！
