After the challenging and eventful time we have faced as a community, the commencement of a new academic year at Wellington College International Hangzhou is an exciting time for pupils, parents and staff.  A new beginning is always full of fresh expectations and challenges. Regardless of whether pupils are new or returning, Wellington College International Hangzhou has ensured that every pupil and family has received a smooth transition back to school.

First Day of School

On the first day of school, pupils gathered together in the Grand Theatre for their first assembly led by Ms. Kathryn Richardson, Principal of Wellington College International Hangzhou. The assembly gave pupils and teachers an opportunity to reflect on the tremendous growth of the College and how strong the community has become over the past two years.

In Primary School, young pupils expressed their curiosity with smiles on their faces and bravely raised their hands to answer questions. In Secondary School, teachers expect senior pupils to become more independent as they prepare for the IGCSEs courses that will commence next year.

At Wellington College International Hangzhou, the highly qualified and carefully selected teaching staff personalise the learning journey for every pupil, fulfil their potential and provide them with every opportunity for success. The College provides almost 300 different school activities as part of Wellington’s co-curricular programme to enrich pupils’ school lives. Options such as kayaking, sports and tournaments, musical productions, orchestra and band encourage pupils to enjoy further learning based on their interests.

Orientation Sessions

To ensure a smooth transition, new families attended their own orientation day before the term commenced. At Wellington, orientation is designed to assist new pupils and their parents to prepare for their transition to the College. During the day, pupils met their teachers and classmates. They had a chance to familiarise themselves with the daily routines through an inclusive campus tour and classroom experience led by their homeroom teachers and tutors, while parents were given a presentation on ‘Everything You Need to Know’ by the Principal, Ms. Kathryn Richardson, in the Grand Theatre.

Parent-school Communication

Wellington firmly believes that community is essential to the success of a school. Pupils, parents, teachers and staff work in partnership to provide a vibrant, fulfilling experience for the children in their care.

With the new term starting, there will be many opportunities for parents to communicate face-to-face with the principal and teachers through school activities and events such as the regular Coffee Mornings, Meet the Teachers, Curriculum Evenings, Parent Teacher Conferences and Parent Information Sessions.

For those who are not able to come back to school yet, teachers are currently providing eLearning services based on the rich experience they gained during the last academic year. The College ensures that every pupil and family will experience a smooth and cheerful start to the new academic year.
