Kavli ITS Workshop-Majorana Modes | 封东来

The Kavli ITS workshop on “Majorana Modes in Topological Super conductors” was held at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences (Kavli ITS) at UCAS in Beijing from January 8-11, 2019. The workshop mainly focuses on the realization and application of elusive Majorana modes in topological superconductors.

Majorana particles, which are their own antiparticles, have been of consider able interest for quantum computing in solid state systems since the zero-bias peak of the conductance was observed in the semiconductor nanowires. Now there are multiple experimental hints to support the potential existence of the Majorana states possessing zero energy. Since Majorana states can form qubits for quantum computation, once the Majorana states are able to be fully controlled and manipulated, the number of the Majorana qubits can be scalable to accelerate the speed of the quantum computation.

The scope of this workshop is to discuss the recent topics in Majorana bound states and Chiral Majorana edge modes in class D, aiming at promoting new collaborations among participants and seeking practical implementations to use Majorana modes for quantum computation. Furthermore, in the workshop, there will be a discussion session focusing on Majorana physics in the vortices of the topological superconductors.

报告摘要

The Majorana zero modes (MZM) in many topological superconductors are often not clean or robust,due to the necessity of impurities or large Fermi energy, which hampers further manipulations of Majorana fermions. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we found that a zero-bias conductance peak (ZBCP) well separated from the other discrete Caroli-de Gennes-Matricon states exists ubiquitously in all cores of free vortices in the defect free regions of (Li0.84Fe0.16) OHFeSe, which has a superconducting transition temperature of 42K. Moreover, a Dirac-cone-type surface state is observed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and its topological nature is confirmed by band calculations. The observed ZBCP can be naturally attributed to an MZM arisingfrom this chiral topological surface states of a bulk superconductor. (Li0.84Fe0.16) OHFeSe thus provides an ideal platform for studying MZMs and topological quantum computing. On FeSe/STO, we show that neither MZMs exist in thevortex cores nor do they show up on the iron impurities, which suggests theband inversion along kz is critical for the realization of topological super-conductivity in FeSe based systems.

个人简介

封东来,2002年被聘为复旦大学物理系教授、博导。2006年被聘为教育部“长江计划”特聘教授, 现任复旦大学应用表面物理国家重点实验室主任。其主要从事凝聚态物理中强关联体系等复杂量子材料的实验研究,他领导的研究组解决了一系列凝聚态物理中的关键基本问题,做出了多项重要工作。如他们通过对KxFe2Se2 超导机理的研究,指出存在第二类的铁基超导材料,被Nature Materials 杂志选为该杂志建刊十年以来发表的二十个里程碑工作之一;解决了困扰人们三十多年的二硫族体系电荷密度波的微观机理问题,并在光电子能谱,x 射线散射,氧化物分子束外延等新实验技术开拓方面取得了系列成就。封东来教授在《科学》、《自然》、《物理评论快报》等国际学术期刊上发表论文157余篇,共被引用11500多次,所做工作多次被国际专业杂志报导。
