Maxwell had already noted that: It is a metaphysical doctrine that from the same antecedents follow the same consequents. […] But it is not of much use in a work like this, in which the same antecedents never agrain concur, and nothing ever happens twice… The physical axiom which has a somewhat similar aspect is “That from like antecedents follow like consequents.”
This, like Bertrand's Russel's turkey and many similar considerations on navie induction mean that there is a lot to understand about the (non-trivial) situstions in which the use of data aims at making the scientific method obsolete:
Sufficient conditions too restrictive?
Implicit use of a priori knowledge? etc.
个人简介
Lamberto Rondoni is a full professor of mathematical physics in Polytechnic University of Turin. He received his PhD of Mathematical Physics in Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1991. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Virginia Polytechnic Instituteand State University during 1991 and 1992. After that, he worked as a research associate in University of New South Wales and a researcher in Politecnico di Torino. He was deputy director at Department of Mathematical Sciences, member of Government Committee for admission to Architecture schools, and chair of theory group for IDEAS-ERC project on noise in gravitational waves detectors.Prof. Rondoni has published about 160 publications (including invited reviews) in professional journals, 5 edited booksand 3 books. He is now the referee for several journals, including Nature, Journal of Statistical Physics, Nonlinearity, Physical Review Letters, Physical Review E, Journal of Physics A, etc. He has supervised more than thirty Ph.D. and MS students, now employed in academia, industry, school, etc. He has taught about 25 different kinds of courses of physics and mathematics subjects at undergraduate and graduate level, in America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

在国家自然科学基金委的支持下,由厦门大学和华侨大学主办的2019“软物质与非平衡物理”研究生国际暑期学校于2019年8月5日到16日在厦门大学海韵校区举行。本届“暑期学校”旨在夯实专业基础、加强研究生科研能力,引领学术前沿,提高研究生进行科学研究的综合能力。暑期学校的课程设置将依据软物质与非平衡物理学科的发展和前沿研究领域设置相关交叉议题,邀请海内外学术水平高、教学经验丰富的知名专家、学者就专业基础和前沿进行授课和讲座。
