报告摘要
I will begin by reviewing the worldline EFT approach to the computation of radiation from gravitationally bound binary systems of black holes in the (“post-Newtonian”, or PN) inspiral regime. In the main part of the talk, I describe recent work on incorporating the dynamical effects of the black hole horizon into the EFT, and report on new applications to the PN equations of motion and energy flux from binaries composed of nearly extremal Kerr black holes. The last part of the talk is devoted to the inclusion of quantum effects associated with the horizon. As an application I’ll discuss inelastic scattering of matter fields off a Schwarzschild black hole induced by the exchange of off-shell Hawking graviton emission. This represents a new type of calculable quantum gravity effect, of the same order in the power counting as the more conventional graviton loop corrections that arise in the EFT formulation of perturbative general relativity.
