A d-dimensional quantum many-body system is said to carry a 't Hooft anomaly if it cannot be realized in strictly d dimensions without breaking some symmetries; instead, to respect symmetries, it must live on the boundary of a (d+1)-dimensional bulk. The connection between properties of the anomalous boundary and its bulk is famously known as bulk-boundary correspondence. In this talk, I will explore a few bulk-boundary relations between anomalous 2D topological orders (a.k.a. topological field theories) and 3D symmetry-protected topological phases. I will show that due to the fact that both boundary and bulk are topological phases, the bulk-boundary relations can be made explicit and precise, such that they can be used as a complete set of indicators to compute 't Hooft anomalies of the boundary. This talk is based on a series of works that I have done with my collaborators in the past few years.

王晨杰 | 香港大学

王晨杰,香港大学物理系助理教授。2007年从中国科学技术大学毕业后到美国布朗大学读研,2012年取得物理学博士学位。主要从事凝聚态理论研究,具体方向包括强关联物理系统中的拓扑物态,量子输运,非平衡态统计等。
