报告人介绍
Prof. Takaaki Kajita
The University of Tokyo
Kajita Takaaki, (born 1959, Higashimatsuyama, Japan), Japanese physicist who was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering the oscillations of neutrinos from one flavour to another, which proved that those subatomic particles have mass. He shared the prize with Canadian physicist Arthur B. McDonald. Kajita received a bachelor’s degree from Saitama University in 1981 and gained his PhD at the University of Tokyo in 1986, working under 2002 Nobel Laureate in Physics Masatoshi Koshiba. Kajita joined the university’s Institute for Cosmic Radiation Research in 1988, and that year the team discovered the atmospheric muon-neutrino deficit, which highlighted the difference in number of neutrinos recorded, compared to the calculated number expected. He remained at the ICRR, rising to professor in 1999 and director in 2008.
报告摘要
Neutrinos have been assumed to have no mass. If neutrinos have mass, neutrino oscillations should occur. Neutrino oscillations were discovered by studying atmospheric and solar neutrinos. I will discuss the discovery of neutrino oscillations, the status of the oscillation studies and the future prospects for neutrino oscillation experiments.
