2024 "SCIP+" Contest is calling for innovative solutions

Introduction

SCIP+ Green Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest has been successfully organized for five years. It has become one of the most influential contests in this industry. The 2024 SCIP+ Contest accords with latest trends of industry to focus on future materials, future energies and future environment to look for innovative solutions from around the globe. The partners of the Contest also come up with designated topics to suit their innovation directions. The Contest aims to help the chemical industry to innovate for more sustainable future.

 

This Contest is organized by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC), Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) and East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), co-organized by Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Shanghai Huayi (Group) Company, Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Co., Ltd.,Shanghai Investment Promotion Service Center, Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board, SUEZ ASIA, Red Avenue Foundation, BusinessFrance, Enterprise Ireland and Impact Hub Shanghai.

Topic 1:Future Materials

Chemical industry low-carbon raw materials substitution; R&D, promotion and application of bio-manufacturing raw materials, biochemical materials, biodegradable materials, biomedical materials etc.; (for low altitude economy and new energy) special fiber materials, lightweight materials, battery and cell raw materials; electronic chemicals and its supporting materials; R&D, promotion and application of green new materials including high performance synthetic resin, membrane materials, rubber materials, engineering plastics, 3D printing materials, recyclable plastics; application of AI in materials R&D.


Topic 2:Future Energies

R&D and application of clean energies such as hydrogen energy, solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, ocean energy; low-carbon transportation fuel innovative solutions including green methane, SAF, green ammonia etc.; disruptive processes and technologies of high-efficiency new energy storage (including Power-to-X and chemical storage for new energy); innovative solutions for hydrogen production, storage and transportation.


Topic 3:Future Environment

Reuse and carbon reduction treatment of industrial, agricultural and household waste containing carbon as energy/resource; waste gas and water pollution treatment, land remediation; treatment, recycle and circular use solutions for solid waste, new pollutant and plastic pollution; carbon capture, sequestration and storage; energy conservation and consumption reduction transformation and smart management of energy and its utilization system; process optimization and other advanced technologies in energy conservation and carbon reduction; carbon emission verification and carbon footprint management.

Requirements

<<<




The participants are divided into Innovation Group and Entrepreneurship Group:


Innovation Group 

Participants are undergraduates and postgraduates in universities and scientific research institutes, full-time undergraduate and postgraduate graduates, teachers in colleges and universities, and scientists and technicians in enterprises. The applicant must be the project leader.


Entrepreneurship Group

Participants are domestic and foreign teams from registered companies and start-ups. They should have basic product, technology or service prototypes, own intellectual property rights, and seek for commercial scale. The applicant must be the founder, legal representative or technical director of the start-up.

Timeline

Launching and Application|June 28th - September 30th

The Contest will be promoted to interested parties and participants by multiple ways through organizers, co-organizers, partners etc.

Selection|October - November


Multiple rounds of online selection will be conducted by experts from industry, academia and capital. Participants for Finals will be selected.

Mentoring|before the Finals


Organization Committee will invite experienced experts to mentor Finals participants.

Finals|December


Experts from industry, capital, university and scientific institute will select winners in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.

Accelerated transformation stage|after the Finals


One-week in-depth incubation training on outstanding teams will be conducted in terms of innovative thinking, client authentication, product/service design, etc. Help will be offered for constructing sustainable and scalable business model, influence assessment, roadshow, investment matchmaking etc.

Opportunities for winning projects:


1.The winning projects will have the opportunity to benefit from the supportive policies of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) for the transformation of innovative achievements.

2.The winning projects will have the chance to receive financial aid from the "Eagle Plan" Foundation.

3.The winning projects will have the opportunity to be recommended by the Science and Technology Financial Centre of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Shanghai Branch to ICBC Investment and Co-investment Fund.

4.The organizing committee will arrange immersion business visits with representatives from leading global companies to accelerate the incubation of winning teams and facilitate investor matchmaking.

5.The winning projects will have the chance to communicate with industry experts for industrial docking, application landing, and market development.

6.Outstanding winning teams will have the opportunity to obtain free workstations at the Shanghai International Chemical & New Materials Innovation Centre in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and enjoy corresponding support policies for R&D, small pilot, pilot testing, and other activities (as referenced in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Implementation Measures of Special Support for Facilitating High-quality Industrial Development).
