Two curves must intersect at least three points to be defined as osculate. Compared with the strict mathematical definition, the etymology of "osculate" comes from the Latin word "osculum", which means kiss. The two distinct meanings of a single word form a unique sense of contrast and contradiction. This sense of contradiction is exactly what Roxanne Tingyi Wang is interested in. Contrast forms contradiction, which can stimulate discussion, and the final outcome is mostly comedy or tragedy. If such a creative process is drawn as a mind map, there will be three intersecting points, forming another sense of osculation. As Max Ernst said, "Creativity is that marvelous capacity to grasp mutually distinct realities and draw a spark from their juxtaposition." Rigidity and romanticism, beauty and corruption,these opposite aspect, also serve as a clue for artists to create for a long time, and constantly appear in the images created by Roxanne.

As the first solo exhibition of Roxanne Tingyi Wang, "Osculate" is the epitome of artists' constant creation, experiment and exploration for a long time. The creative media of Roxanne include oil painting, paper painting and independent publications. As a new generation of female artists, her works often contain the poetic flavor of female narration. At the same time, influenced by surrealism, Chinese tradition and contemporary art, her oil paintings often have the characteristics of expressionism and representativity, and capture and depict the contradictions and mysteries hidden in daily life sensitively and interestingly from the unique perspective of women.

"Denominators without common numerator" was Roxanne‘s creation during the epidemic period in 2020, which gradually expanded from paper to print and oil painting, marking her beginning to explore beyond simple graphic expression. She draws lines through mathematical and intuitive calculations. The denominator without a common numerator refers to the ruler, and most of them are prime numbers. For example, in the 13 x 19 picture, 13 and 19 are prime numbers that cannot be divided by any natural number except their own. Or 144 x 87, which has no common molecules except 1. When writing after calculation, uncertainty turns into certainty, and random decisions are performative. This process has brought the artist an almost healing creative experience. While implying the social anxiety full of uncertainty, the artist always talks with himself in the process of calculation; Reflect on the past; And predict the future to turn uneasiness into possibility. "What I see is that in a social system composed of individuals, the force of collisions between individuals forms a torrent, but when it is magnified to a country or a social system, the daily torrent is diverted and then decelerated, which tends to weaken the energy brought about by daily individual collisions. This also shows that feminism is a particularly long revolution." In art history and art circles, the definition that feminist works can only be expressed in a certain form is undoubtedly too narrow.
