疫情期间，因幽默怒怼特朗普政府防疫不利而刷爆网络的脱口秀主持人，特雷弗·诺亚（Trevor Noah），也就是中国网民喜爱的“崔娃”，最近和“美版钟南山”，美国抗疫领头羊，代表着理性和科学的头面人物，福奇博士（Dr. Anthony Fauci），在《宅家版每日秀》（social distancing daily show）里来了个远程隔空对话。

在这个美国网民期待已久的一次隔空对话中，福奇博士用老百姓都听得懂的话，十分接地气地谈论新冠疫情的最新情况，和日常防控需要注意的事项。

83年出生的崔娃，和40年出生的福奇博士，也像是一场亲切的祖孙对话，和一次恶搞界和科学界破次元壁后的奇妙融合。

对于年轻人不易感的错误观念，福奇医生更是苦口婆心地表示，“就算你觉得不会感染，但你感染了后传给了爷爷奶奶外公外婆和生病的叔叔怎么办？每个人都有道德义务，做好防护！”

The Covid-19 virus is “insidious（狡猾的） and treacherous（危险的）”, Fauci said, “in that（在于） you can spread it easily”, even if you’re asymptomatic（无症状的） or have mild （轻微的）symptoms such as a cough or low fever. 

★asymptomatic patient 就是现在说的很多的，无症状感染者。比如The disease was transmitted by the asymptomatic mother. 

“The other part about it that’s really so different from anything we’ve ever faced before is that if you look at the mortality（死亡率） of seasonal flu – the thing that you and I go through（经历） every season – the mortality is about 0.1%,” Fauci explained. “That’s a lot, and we get used to that mortality. 

But the mortality of this is about 10 times that. It’s at least 1%.” And the mortality rate can be “devastating”（灾难性的） for certain populations, such as the elderly and those with underlying conditions（基础性疾病） such as heart disease, lung disease and diabetes.

★population也有人群的意思，比如black population黑人群体，原文是指，对某些人群，比如老年人和患有基础疾病的患者（心脏病、肺病和糖尿病等）来说，这样高的死亡率是灾难性的。

Which doesn’t let young people off the hook（不受影响） – “even though you are young, you are not absolutely invulnerable（不易感的）,” Fauci said. There are cases of young people in the 20s, 30s, 40s, requiring intensive care（重症护理）, “so if you think you’re completely invulnerable, you’re incorrect”.

★我们经常在口语里听到off the hook，就是脱离困境、不受影响的意思。hook是钩子。就像一条在钩子上拼命挣扎的鱼，挣脱了钩子，或者被放生了，就安全了，自由了。很形象吧。

And even if you have no symptoms, you can still infect（传染） a person who’s at high risk. “So you have a responsibility, not only to protect yourself, but you almost have a societal（社会的）, moral responsibility to protect other people,” Fauci explained.

Noah asked Fauci what the biggest warning on misinformation（虚假信息） about the virus was, especially regarding home remedies（家庭疗法）: “Right now, today, as we speak, there is no proven（已证实的）, safe and effective direct therapy（疗法） for coronavirus disease,” he said.

As for timelines（时间线） of returning to normal（回归正常）, Fauci said that depends on the “kinetics”（动态） of outbreaks across the country, with New York City currently the worst zone. “The virus is the clock,” he said, noting that social distancing （保持社交距离）measures should help.

On a positive note（好消息是）, it’s highly likely that those who have been infected with coronavirus are now immune（免疫的）. Tests haven’t confirmed it yet, “but I feel really confident that if this virus acts like（表现得和...一样） every other virus that we know, once you get infected, get better, clear the virus, then you’ll have immunity that will prevent you from reinfection（再次感染）,” said Fauci.

“I could talk to you for an hour on this, but I know everyone wants your time,” Noah concluded, then slipped in（塞进） one last joke: “Stay safe and wash your hands because of that fake cough（假咳嗽） you did.”
