Beijing requires extra 7-day health monitoring for inbound travelers

Beijing has required inbound travelers to undergo health monitoring for seven additional days following 21 days of medical observation, authorities said Saturday.
The latest requirement was announced following the meeting of the city's COVID-19 prevention and control leadership group held on Friday.

Recently, there have been cases in Beijing and other cities across the country in which inbound travelers were confirmed as COVID-19 patients after 14 days of isolated observation, which led to a rebound in indigenous cases.

In response to the problem, Beijing earlier this month extended the COVID-19 observation period for inbound travelers to 21 days following sporadic locally transmitted cases.

Virus-tainted ice cream cartons tracked down in Tianjin

Most of the 390 cartons of ice cream tainted with the COVID-19 virus that entered the market in the Tianjin have been tracked down and recalled, the government said on Sunday.
Of that total, 372 cartons have been recalled, while authorities are still searching for the remaining 21 cartons.

Three samples of locally-made ice cream using New Zealand milk powder and Ukraine whey mist, under the local brand Daqiaodao, tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. The government began tracing the batch of cartons sold in Tianjin. Authorities elsewhere were notified of sales in their areas.

A total of 2,187 people in the city who had close contacts with the ice cream were found from Thursday to Sunday and 2,122 of them have tested negative. They were put under quarantine on Friday.

经反复核实，流入我市市场的涉疫雪糕为393盒，市场监管部门已追回372盒，其它21盒正在追查中。

US revokes licenses of Huawei suppliers, including Intel

The Trump administration notified Huawei suppliers, including chipmaker Intel, that it is revoking certain licenses to sell to the Chinese company and intends to reject dozens of other applications to supply the telecommunications firm.
The action - likely the last against Huawei Technologies under Republican President Donald Trump - is the latest in a long-running effort to weaken the world’s largest telecommunications equipment maker, which it says is a threat to U.S. national security and foreign policy interests.

The notices came amid a flurry of U.S. efforts against China in the final days of Trump’s administration. Democrat Joe Biden will take the oath of office as president on Wednesday.

An Intel Corp spokesman had no immediate comment, and a Commerce Department spokesman did not immediately return requests for comment.

The COVID-19 superspreader in Jilin, who was engaged in a health-related marketing promotion, caused more than 100 people to be infected. Experts warned that health seminars targeting elderly people are blind spots in the epidemic prevention and control work in residential communities.

The 45-year-old male surnamed Lin, who was identified as a silent coronavirus carrier on Tuesday, was reported to have become a confirmed case on Sunday. He came from neighboring Heilongjiang Province and has traveled on trains and buses in three cities in Jilin.

Lin gave four lectures at two health clubs in Jilin's Gongzhuling and Tonghua as a self-employed marketer from January 8 to 11, causing a total of 102 people to be infected directly and indirectly, including 79 people who attended the lectures and 23 of their close contacts.

The infected people are mostly middle-aged and elderly, with an average age of 63 and the oldest being 87, said Zhang Yan, a deputy director of the Jilin Health Commission, at a press conference on Sunday.

Authorities have carried out a joint investigation into the health clubs that organized Lin's marketing promotions to determine if the clubs' operations or the products being sold were illegal or in violation of local regulations, said an official from the market supervision department of the Jilin government at the press conference.

Jilin has become one of the provinces in China worst-hit by the current outbreaks, with a total of 34 active confirmed cases and 80 asymptomatic patients.

目前报告的114例感染者中，有9例为黑龙江省输入，105例为本地续发感染，在续发感染者中有3例是吉林省外输入感染者的家庭成员，另外102例续发感染者为同一输入病例林某传播。
该病例林某从事个体营销职业，为黑龙江籍，近期多次往返于黑吉两省，活动范围较广，接触人员多，1月6日至11日曾在公主岭市、通化市开展4次针对中老年人的营销活动。
