China sanctions top Trump officials minutes after Biden is inaugurated, including Mike Pompeo

China announced sanctions against a slew of recently departed Trump administration officials over their positions on China on Thursday, barring them from entering or doing business with the country.
Among those sanctioned were former secretary of state Mike Pompeo, former national security adviser Robert O’Brien, former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, and former deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger, considered one of the key architects of the Trump administration’s hardline China policies.
In total, 28 people were targeted by the measures, which also apply to the individuals’ immediate family members. Besides mainland, they will not be permitted entry to Hong Kong or Macau, while any companies or entities associated with them will be restricted from doing business with China.

In a statement issued in the early hours of Thursday morning Beijing time, a foreign ministry spokesperson said the individuals were responsible for a number of “crazy moves” that had “gravely interfered in China’s internal affairs, undermined China’s interests, offended the Chinese people, and seriously disrupted China-US relations”.

Despite overseeing and priding himself in his administration’s hardline approach to China, former US president Donald Trump was himself spared from the sanctions.

Included in the list of individuals were three Trump administration officials who recently travelled or planned to travel to Taiwan: Alex Azar, the outgoing health and human services secretary, Keith Krach, under secretary of state for economic growth, energy, and the environment, and Kelly Craft, the US ambassador to the UN.

TikTok owner ByteDance set to challenge Alipay, WeChat Pay

ByteDance has launched a new payment service within Douyin, the Chinese version of short-video sharing app TikTok.
Douyin users can choose Douyin Pay to make purchases within the short-video app. Creators usually sell items or merchandise related to their content.

Indeed, Douyin already offers payment options from Alibaba affiliate Ant Group's Alipay and Tencent's WeChat Pay, the two dominant mobile payment apps in China.

Together, Alipay and WeChat Pay account for more than 90% of the mobile payments market in China, according to iResearch.
Both payment services are available within apps but also at physical stores where customers can scan barcodes to purchase items. This is different to Douyin Pay which will just be available within the Douyin app.
Douyin's payment system is operated by Wuhan HezhongYibao Technology, a company ByteDance purchased around two years ago. Users will need a Chinese bank account to use Douyin Pay.
The latest push into both e-commerce and financial technology, or fintech, highlights ByteDance's desire to expand beyond social networking. This has included forays into mobile gaming, a search engine and music streaming.

抖音支付正式上线
抖音支付已在抖音APP内正式上线，在抖音APP内购物结算时，除了支付宝和微信支付外，又添加了“抖音支付”的入口。
目前，抖音支付共支持十家银行卡的绑定，包括农业银行、建设银行、中国银行、邮储银行、交通银行、招商银行等。

An elderly man has reportedly been tied to a tree and publicly shamed for taking a walk during a coronavirus lockdown in China.
Social media footage purports to show the pensioner being bound to a tree with ropes by a community officer, who scolded him for leaving his home in 'such a severe situation'.
The clip also shows the officer telling his colleagues 'to tie him tightly' as they appear to punish the senior citizen for flouting draconian quarantine rules.

Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province which surrounds Beijing, has been fighting COVID-19 in a new outbreak since the beginning of January.

On January 8, the city banned all 11million residents from leaving their houses unless absolutely necessary after recording a surge in infections.
The city is also building a massive quarantine camp designed to hold thousands of suspected virus carriers to combat the outbreak.
老人外出被绑树上并遭辱骂：涉事村干部停职
近日，石家庄某地一老人闲得无聊出门转悠，被一群身穿红马甲的人绑在树上，从视频中可以看出，有红马甲人员大声呵斥老人：“这么严的时候你还出来瞎转悠，好好绑他！”视频中疑似爆粗口，被绑的老人全程一语未发。目前，网信办对此回应称：确有其事，老人因违反了出入管理制度！
相关部门表示，事件发生在1月19日的石家庄市藁城区南营镇，穿红色马甲的是防疫志愿者。视频中，一名穿黑色衣服的老人被身旁这几名防疫人员用白色的绳子牢牢捆绑住，双手双脚都无法动弹。从截图来看，老人出门并没有佩戴口罩。
可能是因为录像位置较远，视频全程没有听到老人说话，只是防疫人员一直用方言进行辱骂，大致内容为“……好好绑他，这么严的时候你还出来……你再犯傻，就砸你……！"
针对舆论关注的“石家庄南营镇一老人外出被绑树上并遭辱骂”一事，石家庄市藁城区南营镇政府20日凌晨发布情况通报称，给予涉事的水范寨村党支部书记闫某停职处理。
