Didi ordered off China's app stores after New York IPO

The ride-hailing app Didi has been ordered off China's app stores, just days after the Chinese tech giant launched its shares in New York.
China's cyberspace regulator said Didi had violated laws on collecting users' personal data and ordered its removal.

The firm said the app would continue to operate, but said it had stopped registering new users.

China has recently moved to tighten up governance of the country's large tech firms.
Didi Chuxing, a platform similar to Uber or Lyft, arranges more than 20 million rides in China every day, on average.

Founded in 2012, it is particularly popular in China's crowded cities. But it has expanded beyond China into 15 other markets.

Last week it raised $4.4bn through an initial public offering in New York, making it the largest share launch since Chinese online retailer Alibaba's in 2014.
Just a day after shares began trading in New York, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) announced it was investigating the firm to protect "national security and the public interest", prompting the shares to drop 5.3%.

Didi gathers vast amounts of real-time mobility data every day. It uses some of the data for autonomous driving technologies and traffic analysis.

The CAC said: "After checks and verification, the Didi Chuxing app was found to be in serious violation of regulations in its collection and use of personal information."
This investigation follows regulatory crackdowns on other tech firms, from Alibaba to food delivery service Meituan.滴滴出行App下架滴滴：不影响接单

对此，滴滴出行在微博上进行了回应：滴滴坚决落实国家有关部门的相关要求，已于7月3日暂停新用户注册，滴滴出行App将严格按照有关部门的要求下架整改。同时，已下载滴滴App的用户可正常使用，乘客的出行和司机师傅的接单不受影响。

China-Myanmar border city reported 3 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

Ruili, a city in Southwest China's Yunnan Province bordering Myanmar, announced lockdown on Monday after reporting three new domestic COVID-19 cases a day earlier. The city has started nucleic acid tests for all residents and it’s expected to be completed by Tuesday.


During a round of nucleic acid tests in Ruili, three domestic COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday, two of them being Chinese nationals and one from Myanmar, the Health Commission of Yunnan Province said in a statement on its website on Monday.

Starting 8 am Monday, all personnel are required not to leave or enter Ruili unless necessary, the city’s COVID-19 prevention and control work command center announced in a statement on the city government’s website on Monday.

The Jiegao Bridge, which links China and Myanmar, is also closed to traffic.

Those who live or work in Ruili are allowed to enter the city after showing valid certificates, and those who need to leave Ruili out of special reasons must present a negative nucleic acid test result within three days and receive approval from the command center, the command center said.

From Monday to Tuesday, Ruili will also conduct free nucleic acid tests for all residents, the command center said in a separate announcement on the city government website on Monday.

This is not the first time Ruili has been struck by a COVID-19 surge this year. There was another outbreak from late March to early April, which caused the reshuffle of city government officials.

从7月5日8时起，云南瑞丽加强人员进出瑞丽及重点区域管理，包括所有人员非必要不进出瑞丽；姐告大桥实行禁止通行政策，原则上不进不出，特殊情况需要进出姐告国门社区的，凭市指挥部发放的通行证出入。
管控措施将根据疫情防控工作进展情况适时调整，并及时公布。

Chairman of Chinese space firm suspended after attacking, hospitalizing two senior academicians

The chairman of an aerospace investment company under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) was suspended from his post and is under further investigation after the chairman reportedly beat two academicians severely that they required hospitalization, which has drawn huge attention on Chinese social media. 
According to a statement that CASC made on Sunday, the company has sent a team to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the case and will deal with the case seriously based on the result. 
Zhang Tao, the 57-year-old Chairman of China Aerospace Investment Holding Ltd., an investment management entity authorized by CASC, beat two academicians from the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), an international non-governmental organization, 85-year-old Wang Jinnian and 55-year-old Wu Meirong, on June 6, according to a report by China Newsweek on Saturday, quoting a document that an industrial insider provided.


The document said Zhang invited the two academicians to visit his company and asked them to make a recommendation for him to be an academician of the IAA during the dinner. But Wang refused his request as it was the first time they had met and he did not have enough knowledge of the work Zhang had done. 

The refusal angered Zhang. He started a quarrel with Wang and stood up and tried to hit him. Wu, the other academician, felt very frightened sitting on the side and asked to leave the table. Around at 10:30 pm, Zhang, with his subordinates, escorted the two academicians to their homes. Zhang kicked Wang in the elevator and beat the two severely, the document shows. 

Wang suffered rib fractures and multiple soft tissue injuries throughout the body, while Wu suffered spinal fractures and was hospitalized and required surgery, the China Newsweek reported, citing the hospital's diagnostic in the document. 

A staff member from the China Aerospace Investment Holding Ltd. told the China Newsweek on Friday that police had investigated the incident, and Zhang Tao was still at work.

CASC said in the statement that Zhang was drunk when he attacked the two academicians.
