China’s GDP grows at 8.1% in 2021

China's gross domestic product exceeded the 110-trillion-yuan (US$17.3 trillion) threshold in 2021, official data showed Monday.

The country saw its GDP increase 8.1 percent year on year to 114.367 trillion yuan last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics .

The hard-earned achievement marked a new economic milestone for the Chinese economy after the country's GDP expanded 2.3 percent year on year to 101.5986 trillion yuan in 2020.

China's economy continued stable recovery in 2021, leading the world in both economic development and epidemic control, said the NBS.

China's per capita disposable income stood at 35,128 yuan in 2021, up 9.1 percent year on year in nominal terms, according to NBS data.

分季度看，一季度同比增长18.3%，二季度增长7.9%，三季度增长4.9%，四季度增长4.0%。

分产业看，第一产业增加值83086亿元，比上年增长7.1%；第二产业增加值450904亿元，增长8.2%；第三产业增加值609680亿元，增长8.2%。

国家统计局数据显示，2021年，全国居民人均可支配收入35128元。

COVID-19 test within 72 hours required to enter Beijing

Beijing will require travelers to get a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival in the Chinese capital, state media announced Sunday, a day after the city reported its first Omicron case and as it readies to stage the Winter Olympics next month.

On Saturday, the city reported the first local infection of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, involving a person who had visited multiple malls and restaurants in the previous 14 days. The person had not left the city since the start of 2022.

The new rule, effective from January 22 to end-March, is aimed to help with early detection of Omicron, which is surging globally, and the control of epidemic risks.

Already, the capital city requires inbound travelers to take a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of departure for the city and have a green code on the city's health tracking app.

The city and Hebei Province will host the Olympics, which start on February 4, inside a "closed loop" separating athletes and other Games personnel from the general public.

Hong Kong bans transit flights from over 150 countries

Hong Kong International Airport said it will ban transit passengers from 150 countries and territories starting Sunday, tightening stringent travel controls in an effort to stem the spread of the highly contagious omicron variant.

Authorities also said Friday they will extend social distancing restrictions, including a ban on dining in after 6 p.m., by another two weeks over the Lunar New Year holidays to Feb. 3. Large-scale events, such as Lunar New Year fairs held annually in Hong Kong, will be canceled.

The transit ban and extension of distancing rules come as the city grapples with an omicron outbreak of the coronavirus, with most of the cases traced to two crew members of Cathay Pacific who had broken isolation rules and dined at restaurants and bars in the city before testing positive.

Over the past two weeks, authorities have locked down multiple residential buildings across the city and mass-tested thousands as they sought to stamp out omicron infections.

Airline passengers who have stayed in over 150 places deemed “high risk” in the last 21 days, including the United States and Britain, will be banned from transiting in Hong Kong from Jan. 16 to Feb. 15, according to a notice posted by the airport.

Last week, Hong Kong imposed a two-week ban on incoming flights from the U.S., Canada, Australia, France, Britain, India, Pakistan and the Philippines.
