Xiao Yian, a 26 yearold female delivery woman sitting on a chair at the food plaza, was waiting for delivery order. She wore a hat with the logo of Meituan (a takeout platform) and a Tshirt with their slogan. She said: “I haven’t met any difficult guests or received any bad comments. But many times, the slow speed of food preparation by merchants will affect my delivery within the limit time. Every time I encounter such a situation, I will ride my motorcycle at a very fast speed, I will be very worried about traffic safety as well. I’m lucky, but a friend of mine once overturned on his delivery way. There were several undelivered food in his food box. All the food spilled out, and he had to compensate all the guests. Even after doing this, he got a formal complaint.”

Bin Xu, a 40 year old man who specializes in takeout business, said: “Compared to those restaurants that accept clients to eat in their place, we usually have shorter preparation time, so the drivers have more time to deliver the order. Every time when there is bad weather, I am very worried about the safety of the drivers. Because even if the visibility is low, delivery men still have to complete the task in the same time. I have to say that I’m more concerned about whether the drivers can deliver the order on time, because it’s also related to the reputation of my store. I’ve seen a lot of news stories about the delivery men who encountered car accidents. I just hope it will never happen to my delivery men.”

Lily Pan, a 20 year old International Business student from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, said: “Although I will be angry that my order cannot arrive on time, I will still respect every takeout man very much. Because I’m afraid that some delivery workers with bad characters who know my address and phone number will retaliate against me if I make a formal complaint.”
