Do All Chinese Men Like Being Shirtless In Summer?
Welcome to the episode of DACD’s Stereotype Series. Today we’re going to talk about whether all Chinese men like being shirtless in summer.
In the initial stage of P.R.C., most Chinese men had a low level of education and they were mostly peasants. There were no air conditioners, so it would feel cooler and be easier to work without upper clothes. Those being shirtless in summer were mainly middle-aged and elderly men. They didn’t have a good upbringing, nor did they care about a personal image like young people did. They took off their upper clothes just to stay cool.
Nowadays, since China is progressing towards civilization, citizens are developing better manners and they’ve come to realize that staying shirtless is uncivilized and indecent. Most public places also deny entry to someone who is not dressed properly. In big cities, "Beijing Bikini" can hardly be seen any more.
