Learn Chinese Saying: It Is The First Step That Costs (万事开头难)

It is the first step that costs.



“万事开头难” means the first step is always the hardest. According to this saying, it is normal to find something difficult at the start, but as long as one doesn't give up and keeps doing it, the situation will get easier and better.



Wǒ gāng lái Zhōng Guó ,hái bú tài xí guàn zhè lǐ de shēng huó 。

A: 我刚来中国,还不太习惯这里的生活。

(I just came to China lately, I still couldn't get used to the live here.)


Wàn shì kāi tóu nán ,yǐ hòu kěn dìng huì hǎo de 。

B:万事开头难,以后肯定会好的。

(It's always hard at the beginning, I am sure it will be better in the future.)




Wǒ gāng kāi shǐ xué Hàn Yǔ de shí hòu jué de zhēn de hěn nán ,dàn shì wǒ xiàn zài yuè xué yuè hǎo ,wǒ yě yuè lái yuè xǐ huan Hàn Yǔ le 。

A: 我刚开始学汉语的时候觉得真的很难,但是我现在越学越好,我也越来越喜欢汉语了。

(I thought Chinese was very difficult when I first studied it, but now it's getting better and better and I like it more and more.)


Duì ,wàn shì kāi tóu nán ,zhǐ yào nǐ nǔ lì ,kěn dìng néng xué hǎo 。

B:对,万事开头难,只要你努力,肯定能学好。

(Exactly, it's always difficult at the beginning, but as long as you work hard, you can do it well for sure.)
