Do's and Don'ts in China 03 Table Manners!

In the last episode, we have given an introduction to the dining etiquette in China. Today, we will keep talking about Chinese table manners. As we all know, etiquette and politeness are highly valued in China. The younger generations all show great respect towards the elderly, which also shows on the dining table.

DO


Let the elderly start first.

要等长辈先开始动筷子


DO NOT


Don’t start eating first in the presence of the elderly. 

在有长辈在场的情况下,不可以自己先吃

Do


Invite the guest of honor or the elderly to  sit in the seat of honor, which is the one facing the entrance. 

正对门的位置是主宾位,要请重要的尊敬的客人或者长者入座 


DO NOT


Don’t occupy the seat of honor in the presence of a guest or the elderly. 

在有客人或者长者的情况下,不可以自己占据主位

Do


Offer to serve tea to the elderly when dining with them and pour up to around 70% of the cup . 

在跟长辈一起吃放时,要主动给长辈倒茶,大概倒七分


DO NOT


It’s  impolite of young people not to offer tea to the elderly or to fill the tea cup too much

晚辈不主动给长辈倒茶很不礼貌,不可以倒得太满
