Get an Eyeful of The Alluring Red Carpet Beach in Panjin

The "red carpet beach" or "the sea of red” is not covered in sand at all but in reality, it’s covered by a type of seaweed called, ‘Sueda’, located in the biggest wetland and reed marsh in the world and grown on 130 square kilometer area.

Despite being the largest and best-protected wetlands around Shuangtaizi River mouth, the area shelters more than 260 kinds of birds and 400 kinds of wild animals including the endangered Crown Cranes and Black Beaked Gulls.

The Red Beach in Panjin is a major tourist attraction, due to its natural color carpeted with grass, which is a type of grass thriving only in highly alkaline soils. Such phenomena start growing during April and May in green color stays green until spring season then, during the autumn season it changes its color to bright red. 

Hence, the best time to visit the park is during the fall/autumn (July throughout to October esp. September), where the plants turn to a type of red. You can admire the breathtakingly marshy area and enjoy the burgundy beach while walking on the provided wooden path in order to protect the ecosystem trails built on stilts.

 How to get to panjin? 

Panjin is 155 kilometers (96 miles) from Shenyang and 302 kilometers (188 miles) from the Port of Dalian. You can take the flight to these cities first, then transfer to panjin.

Non-stop flight time from Shanghai to Anshan city (nearest airport) is around 2 hours 30 minutes.

High-speed train from Shanghai to Panjin is about 9 hours 20 minutes.
