International hospitals aim to fulfill international standards of service, cleanliness, communication, and more. You can expect fewer patients, English-speaking staff (sometimes other languages as well), and doctors who have been trained abroad.
If you don't mind paying a premium, a good international hospital will generally offer a more pleasant all-around experience than a local hospital.
However, if you don't have insurance or are otherwise unwilling to pay a higher price, a local hospital is not a bad choice. Especially in first-tier cities, the standard of healthcare at major local clinics is still high.

Registration/consultation fees tend to range from ~400RMB to ~900RMB, but this varies by hospital. Treatment will often rack up a bill of several thousand RMB.
