Hopeful News: Virus Cases Drop for 13th Consecutive Day!

China's daily updates on new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outside Hubei, the epicenter province in the outbreak, have been dropping for 13 consecutive days, according to the National Health Commission (NHC).

A total of 166 new confirmed cases were reported on Saturday outside Hubei, the commission said.

The commission received reports of 2,009 new confirmed cases on Saturday from 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, including 1,843 in Hubei.

Additionally, the proportion of severe and critical cases of the novel coronavirus disease among all confirmed cases has also decreased significantly in China, the NHC reported on Sunday.

In Wuhan, the proportion of severe cases among the confirmed cases fell from a peak of 32.4% on January 28 to 21.6% on February 15, said Mi Feng, a spokesperson with the NHC, at a press conference in Beijing.

The proportion in other parts of Hubei Province also dropped from a peak of 18.4% on January 27 to 11.1% on February 15, said Mi.

As for other provinces around China, their percentage has decreased by almost half, falling from a peak of 15.9% on January 27 to 7.2% on February 15. "These changes have proven that the current epidemic prevention and control measures are effective," said Mi.

Authorities and medics are carrying out differentiated measures on the patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, close contacts of the confirmed cases, and fever patients, the spokesperson said.

"The differentiated measures ensure that a large number of mild cases are treated on time, reducing the possibility of becoming severe cases.”
