Breaking News! Foreigners With Visa Barred From Entering China

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in response to growing concerns about imported COVID-19 cases and fears of a second virus wave hitting the country by temporarily blocking foreign travelers from entering China, even those holding valid visas and residence permits, effective March 28 at midnight, local time.

Foreign professionals with an APEC business travel card will also not be allowed in.

All port visa services will be suspended, including transit visas, Hainan entry visas, Shanghai cruise ship visa exemptions, 144-hour visa exemptions for foreign travelers coming from Hong Kong and Macao to enter Guangdong, and visa exemptions for ASEAN tourist groups entering the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Entry on diplomatic, official, courtesy and C visas will not be affected.

Foreigners who come to China to engage in necessary economic, trade, scientific and technological activities and for urgent humanitarian needs may apply for visas from Chinese embassies and consulates abroad. The entry of aliens on visas issued after the announcement will not be affected.

While this measure may seem drastic, China remains in constant communication with all parties and organizations abroad to ensure the safety of its citizens and those traveling from overseas under such unique global conditions.
