Do We Need to Wear Masks Anymore? Expert Weighs In

GiC Team GICexpat 2020-08-23

According to Wu Zunyou, Chief Epidemiologist at the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is no need to wear a mask in places with good ventilation, such as spacious outdoor areas including playgrounds, parks, and sparsely populated streets.

He also stressed the unnecessity to wear them in schools and while at home, considering the absence of threatening exposure to the virus in your own household.

As a general rule, shares Zunyou, people who aren’t required to travel for business to unfamiliar regions, and/or who live in low-risk zones, are not required to put a mask on.

The same rule applies to students and teachers in low-risk communities, who are not expected to be wearing masks in class, nor is it recommended to have young infants wear them in childcare facilities.

Based on expert advice, it appears that we are progressively getting back into normalcy, although we must remain vigilant and continue maintaining the highest level of hygiene and personal care to ensure everyone’s health and safety isn’t at risk again.
