On May 15, Shanxi Province passed the Regulations of Shanxi Province Forbidding Spitting in Public Places.
It is the first provincial-level local law in China to focus on the problem of spitting in public places and it will take effect on June 1, 2020.
According to the regulations, anyone who spits in an outdoor public place will be fined RMB 100-200. Anyone who spits randomly in a room of public place shall be punished by RMB 200-300; Those who spit in public confined spaces such as public transport and elevators shall be punished with a penalty of RMB 300-500.
In addition, a record system of administrative penalty for spitting in public places should be established, and illegal ACTS should be brought into the public credit information system according to law and exposed publicly.
