China Releases Data on Highest-Paying Industries, Including...

GiC Team GICexpat 2020-08-28

China’s National Bureau of Statistics published their annual data on the country’s economy and average wages for 2019, which reports a total GDP of close to RMB 100 trillion (US $14.13 trillion).

GDP per capita exceeds US $10,000, with annual wages for employees living in urban areas and working in non-private sectors averaging RMB 90,501; a 9.8% increase since the previous year.

In contrast, workers in the private sector saw an average salary of RMB 53,604, up 8.1%.

But the bigger question is: which industries were the most lucrative for employees in 2019 based on national averages?

Here’s the list of the six highest-paying fields with annual salaries exceeding RMB 100,000:

●Information transmission, software and information technology services: RMB 161,352;

● Scientific research and technical services: RMB 133,459;

● Finance: RMB 131,405 yuan;

● Health and social work: RMB 108,903;

● Electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply industry: RMB 107,733;

● Culture, sports and entertainment: RMB 107,708.

The most surprising and promising aspect of this report is how the IT industry’s average annual income not only exceeds the RMB 160,000 mark, but has surpassed that of the financial industry for the first time since 2016.

Web developers, engineers and other technology-related roles are seeing bigger paychecks as companies continue to implement digital transformation strategies to remain competitive in the market.

Are you surprised by the above-mentioned list?

What industries do you foresee as becoming one of the highest-paid in the near future? Are you working in any of those listed?
