WeChat Update Now Makes This Feature Possible! But Also…

WeChat has undeniably changed the way we communicate in China thanks largely to a myriad of amazing features, but it has also failed to address several user pain points, one of which has been our inability to delete people’s comments on our WeChat Moments.

While only people who are already connected with the user who leaves a “bad” comment can see it (meaning those who aren’t WeChat friends with that person cannot see those comments), it’s still frustrating to be left with only two options:

1. Ignore the comment and go about your life, or

2. Delete the entire post

Luckily, at last, it appears our prayers have been heard!

WeChat has finally rolled out an upgrade for the iOS version of its WeChat 7.0.15 ecosystem, enabling users to delete comments as they wish. All you need to do is long-press a comment and delete it. Voila!

For the time being, Android users do not have access to this feature yet.

To make sure people don’t start accidentally deleting comments left and right, WeChat prompts a confirmation message.

There is, however, a caveat to this update. After deleting a comment, the person who left it will see that their comment has been deleted, thereby potentially making things a tad awkward between you and your WeChat friend.

Or perhaps offering opportunities for more transparent communication, pushing us to explain why certain comments are not appreciated over others. 

A lot of WeChat users have already responded to this update, explaining their potential embarrassment after notifying someone that their comment has been deleting, and wondering why Tencent would need to link this to the feature.
