In this day and age, it seems the more technologies we adopt, the furthest we are from the person in front of us. In the end, we end up prioritizing our phones over building genuine relationships with other human beings around us, to the detriment of our social life.

Jean Jullien, a French graphic designer, and illustrator, accurately depicts the intimate relationship between modern society and the Internet/phones through a penetrating illustration series.

Remember that in the pre-smartphone era, we carefully saved every meaningful text message.

Technology has, of course, brought a lot of positive improvements to our lives. Now we can easily cross the gap between regions and time, exchange recent information with friends who are far away, and instantly save and share every moment of our daily life through our mobile phones.

However, with such convenience comes a darker side; one that gradually sets the people actually sitting with us aside.

We take and look at our phones anywhere we go. And we use it for everything.

As long as I have my phone, I’m never truly alone.

This part will never tan.

Taking selfies, all. the. time.

Even when it's time to relax, work takes over your life.

Still working when the sun rises.

Traveling = finding a new place to play around with your phone.

When it’s time to dine, cold screens replace warm communication.

It’s easy to find freedom again; it just depends on whether you’re ready to accept the consequences or not.

Real good things happen to you every day.

Those online thumb up's and comments may not be as heartwarming as a person’s smile. With that in mind, it’s time to start caring about the people around us again and put our attention back to where it belongs.
