Go Rogue

释义:

Rogue: behaving in ways that are not expected or not normal, often in a way that causes damage. 异常的;行为失常的;常制造麻烦的。

Go rogue: to cease to follow orders; to act on one's own, usually against expectation or instruction; to pursue one's own interests; to behave erratically or dangerously, especially by disregarding the rules or the usual way of doing something.

例句:The priest joked that he wrote his sermons (讲道) not to interest the worshipful, but to rebuke those who were tempted to go rogue.


Gavel: a mallet/small hammer used (as by a presiding officer or auctioneer) for commanding attention or confirming an action (such as a vote or sale). (会议主席或法官用来保持肃静的) 小木槌。mallet: 大头槌,槌球、马球等运动中的击球槌,球棍。

Verb, to chair (meeting session), to request order, to put/bring into effect by using a gavel or striking a gravel (on the block) 敲槌以要求安静或保持秩序以开始/完成/进行。

例句:The judge gaveled the audience to silence at the begining of the hearing.

Gavel-to-gavel: lasting from the beginning to the end of an event or meeting session. (会议)由始至终的,从开始到结束的。

例句: 

  • Broadcasters provided gavel-to-gavel coverage of the trial.

  • Florida Supreme Court Gavel to Gavel Video Portal.


Travesty: a false, absurd, or distorted representation of something. 歪曲、嘲弄。

例句:the absurdly lenient sentence is a travesty of justice.


Siege:the surrounding of a place by an armed force in order to defeat those defending it. 围攻、包围。

例句:

  • The siege of Mafeking lasted for eight months.

  • The soldiers laid siege to (= started a siege of) the city.

  • The castle was under siege (besieged) for months.
