Hiroshi Sone (b.1965) is an internationally renowned Japanese contemporary artist, known since the 1990s for his sculptures of natural and urban landscapes, as well as for his paintings, photographs, videos and performances. The themes of his works revolve around the discrepancies and contradictions between reality and perfection, and he is skilled at drawing out striking details within a conceptual framework. He is good at listening to the breath of nature, and snowflakes and trees are the main characters of his works.

Born in Shizuoka, Japan, a city famous for its ski resorts and close to Mount Fuji, Sone Yu mastered skiing at the tender age of four. "Snow became a key image throughout his career, with images such as "snow leopard," "skiing," and "snowflake," as well as his favorite works. He regards "every snowflake is different" as his life credo, just like the group of "snowflake" photographs on display here, in which the artist focuses his lens on the life moments of those snowflakes that are so small that they are almost imperceptible, and that are on their way to melting and disappearing!
