Cloud Index "Cloud Index" is a digitally commissioned work by Serpentine Gallery in 2016 by Bridle that deeply explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, computerized forecasting, and the weather. Through machine learning techniques, weather and political polling data is captured to derive composite, forward-looking predictions, advocating artificial control to steer the course of democracy. Since ancient times, humans have looked to the sky to reveal the future; today, the cloud is the window: with rapidly iterating algorithms, people are trying to predict, and thus manipulate, where the future is headed. In the evolution of weather prediction and intervention technologies, human behavior is already changing the global climate. The six videos in this exhibition show the weather and public opinion during the Brexit referendum in the UK in pixelated, visual cloud formations. In addition, Beiqiu Contemporary Art Museum has also translated the artist's long essay "Cloud History, Cloud Thinking", which provides a clearer way to understand "Cloud Index".
