East China University of Political Science and Law, located in Shanghai, China, is a high level local university co-built by the central government and the local government. The university, formerly known as East China College of Political Science and Law, was founded on the site of St. John's University in June 1952 by merging the law, political and social departments of 9 universities, including St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, University of Hujiang, Anhui University, Shanghai College and Schindler University. In 1958, the university was incorporated into Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. In 1963, it was prepared again and enrolled students in the following year. It stopped enrollment in 1966 and was revoked in 1972. In March 1979, approved by The State Council, the school was reopened for the second time. In 2000, the school was put under the administration of Shanghai by the Ministry of Justice. In March 2007, approved by the Ministry of Education, the university was renamed East China University of Political Science and Law.
By November 2022, the university has three campuses in Songjiang, Changning and Putuo, covering an area of over 750,000 square meters. It has 21 schools offering 25 undergraduate programs. It has 2 post-doctoral research stations; There are more than 1300 teaching staff, nearly 900 full-time teachers, and more than 18,000 students.
