每年5月5日或5月6日是农历的立夏，此时，太阳黄经为45度，在天文学上，立夏表示即将告别春天，是夏日的开始。人们习惯把立夏当作是温度明显升高，炎暑将临，雷雨增多，农作物进入旺季生长的一个重要节气。
On May 5th or May 6th every year, it is the beginning of summer in the lunar calendar. At this time, the solar meridian is 45 degrees. In astronomy, beginning of summer means that spring is about to bid farewell. People tend to view the beginning of summer as an important solar term for a significant increase in temperature, approaching scorching heat, increasing thunderstorms, and entering the peak season for crop growth.
立夏之日“蝼蝈鸣”。按东汉郑玄的解释，“蝼蝈”为蛙类，非蝼蛄。立夏鸣的据说是一种色褐黑的蛙。
二候蚯蚓出立夏后五日，“蚯蚓生”。蚯蚓又名曲蟮，蟮长吟于地下，感阴气而曲，乘阳气而伸见。
三候王瓜生再五日，“王瓜生”。此王瓜又名“土瓜”，“瓜似雹子，熟则色赤，鸦喜食之，故称‘老鸦瓜’”，非黄瓜。

迎夏仪式
立夏阳气渐长，万物随阳气上升而茁壮成长。古代，人们非常重视立夏礼俗。在立夏这天，古代人们会举行迎夏仪式。
贰尝新活动
在江浙一带有“立夏尝新”的风俗。苏州地方有“立夏见三新”的谚语。“三新”指新熟的樱桃、青梅和麦子。人们先以“三新”祭祖，然后尝食。
叁立夏秤人
人们在村口或台门里挂起一杆大木秤，秤钩悬一根板凳，大家轮流坐到板凳上面秤人。司秤人一面打秤花，一面讲着吉利话。立夏秤人会对阿斗带来福气，人们也祈求上苍给他们带来好运。

There is a custom of "tasting new things at the beginning of summer" in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions. There is a proverb in Suzhou that says 'see three new things at the beginning of summer' . 'San Xin' refers to newly ripe cherries, green plums, and wheat. People first offer sacrifices to their ancestors with the "Three New", and then taste the food.
People hang a large wooden scale at the entrance of the village or at the entrance of the platform, and the scale hook hangs a bench. Everyone takes turns sitting on the bench to weigh people. The person in charge of weighing is playing scales while speaking auspicious words. Lixia Librans bring blessings to Ah Dou, and people also pray to God to bring them good luck.
