Passage 1
必修2U2 Wildlife protection
The wildlife on our planet is dying out at an alarming rate. About 150 to 200 species on average are becoming extinct every day. Fortunately, the situation has improved for some animals since measures are being taken to help them.Take Tibetan antelope for example. The antelopes were once under threats because of the sharp reduction of their living space. What’s worse, they faced serious attacks from hunters for illegal profits.
In order to save the beautiful creature, the government was under pressure to take effective measures immediately to protect them. Reserves were built up to keep them safe from attacks. Mass posters were created to stir up people’s emotions. Due to the effective measures taken by the authority, now an increasing number of people are taking a concerned attitude to Tibetan antelope, being aware of the importance of watching over their habitat and searching for approaches to protect the wildlife in their neighbourhood. The antelope whose population has recovered was removed from the endangered species list.
Since the threats to the antelope is still in existence, the government tends to continue the protection program. Only when we learn to live in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.
