自2018年起，艺术家江立宁便将他几乎所有的绘画作品都命名为“隐士”，以数字编号加以区分。如作品标题所暗示的，他那些低饱和度的、极简构图的画面呈现出的恰似一种隐遁的、出世的静谧状态。对光影的瞬时捕捉可以说是他创作中最关键的要素；图像在他那里行使着对其周遭的日常环境同其知觉和内部心境的互动与对话的表达机制。以事物的某一切面为对象，艺术家的创作过程通常包含了观看、拍摄记录、用电脑编辑相片，最后根据这些相片在画布上开始一层层颜料的覆盖、叠加和绘制。它们是我们最为熟悉的日常物，然而画面里被放大的局部和细节、锐化的线条以及大片灰度的色调却制造出一种异样感，悬置了观者的知觉经验的同时，也暗含了一种在静观中抓住某物的可能，图像作为媒介的魅惑力也于此展现出来：既来自物理世界，又与其始终保持疏离，既是被再现物的缺席，也是精神图像（mental imagery）的显影。

Since 2018, artist Jiang Lining has named almost all of his paintings "hermit", which are distinguished by numbers. As the title of the artwork suggests, his images with low-saturation, minimalist compositions appear as reclusive, worldly tranquility. The instantaneous capture of light and shadow is arguably the most critical element in his creation; In him, the image acts as an expression mechanism for the interaction and dialogue between the daily environment around him and his perception and internal state of mind. The artist's creative process usually involves looking at any aspect of an object, taking notes, editing photographs on a computer, and finally starting to overlay, overlay, and paint layers of paint on a canvas from these photographs. 此次个展“低垂之眼”，亦即艺术家迄今第二次个展，将挑选出其近两年来的11件作品进行展出。其中有他一系列较为典型的对光线透过百叶窗或窗帘投射出层叠的光景的描绘，隐匿的笔触与各色的灰度让画面看似雾霭、薄纱般轻盈，有的在画布上分割出数个区域，以拼贴的样式呈现出不同的色彩组合与空间张力。本次还将首次展出一幅来自艺术家最新系列的绘画；他从对矿泉水水瓶的凝视中提取元素，将水在瓶中流淌的光影凝结在了画布上，不饱和的金色渲染出晨昏蒙影般的景象。

This solo exhibition "Downcast Eyes", the artist's second solo exhibition so far, will select 11 works in the past two years to be exhibited. Among them, there are a series of typical descriptions of overlapping scenes projected by the light through the blinds or curtains. The hidden brushstrokes and various shades of gray make the pictures seem light like mist and gauze. Some of them are divided into several areas on the canvas,presenting different color combinations and spatial tension in the style of collage. A painting from the artist's latest series will also be on display for the first time; He extracts elements from the gaze of a mineral water bottle, and sets the light and shadow of water flowing in the bottle on the canvas, and the unsaturated gold renders the scene of gorgeous morning and evening.

同20世纪的表现主义形成强烈对比，在江立宁的绘画里我们几乎看不到绘画的痕迹，取而代之的是一种逼近平面打印或影像质感的视觉场域。泰然、沉静、内省，他的作品更多承袭了来自东方禅宗和中国宋瓷的美学，以温润质朴的气韵消散一丝现代都市的疲乏之感。与其说绘画是目的，不如说溢出画外的情绪才是艺术家试图真正去传递的。展览标题同时暗示了一种观看之道：将眼眸低垂，悬置视知觉，转向更为丰富的具身体验。

In sharp contrast to expressionism in the 20th century, we can hardly see the traces of painting in Jiang Lining's paintings. Instead, it is a visual field approaching plane printing or image texture. Calm, quiet and introspective, his works more inherit the aesthetics from the Oriental Zen and Chinese Song porcelain, and dissipate a sense of modern urban fatigue with a warm and simple atmosphere. Rather than saying that painting is the purpose, it is better to say that the emotion overflowing out of the painting is what the artist tries to really convey. The title of the exhibition also suggests a way to watch: lower your eyes, suspend your visual perception, and turn to a richer embodied experience.

1993年出生于上海。

2016年本科毕业于华东师范大学获学士学位

2018年毕业于美国明尼阿波利斯艺术与设计学院获硕士学位现生活、工作于上海。

江立宁的作品借助日常经验中对空间的注视与捕捉，在观看的过程中对被忽视的边缘和情感进行不断的剥离、隐藏和重现，转化出一种克制且隐 秘的图像结果，试图将不确定的微妙状态与情感视觉化。江立宁在绘画风格上回应了极简主义的纯粹性，并将屏幕的光感与色域绘画结合，意图反抗这个时代下匆忙的节奏和直白的表达，提供给观者一个游离在具象与抽象之间的冥想空间。

Jiang Lining was born in Shanghai in 1993. He received his bachelor's degree from East China Normal University in 2016 and his master's degree from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2018. He now lives and works in Shanghai. 

Jiang Lining's works use the gaze and capture of space in daily experience to constantly strip, hide and reproduce the neglected edges and emotions in the process of viewing, transforming a restrained and secret image result, trying to visualize the delicate state and emotion of uncertainty. Jiang Lining responds to the purity of minimalism in his painting style, and combines the light sense of the screen with gamut painting, aiming to resist the hurried rhythm and straightforward expression of this era, and provide the viewer with a contemplative space between the concrete and the abstract.

李素超｜Li Suchao

李素超，格拉斯哥大学艺术史硕士毕业，现工作生活于上海，从事艺术写作、研究与展览，2021年起兼任美凯龙艺术中心研究员，以及Longlati Foundation写作者收藏委员会成员。她的写作可见于多家艺术媒体和机构出版。2020年参与策划由实验影像中心（CEF）与艺术家杨福东发起的首届“未来未来—青年实验影像计划”。2019年获第六届国际艺术评论奖（IAAC）二等奖。2017年被委派为于故宫举办的第11届AAC艺术中国评审翻译与学术支持。她近年来的研究方向和兴趣着眼人类世的风景(landscape)，人文与生态的对话，人类与非人、生命与非生命的缠绕纠葛。

Suchao Li, graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Master’s Degree in History of Art, currently lives and works in Shanghai, and actively engaged in contemporary art writing, research and exhibition. She is a contributing researcher at Macalline Art Center and a member of the Writers’ Acquisition Committee of Longlati Foundation. Her writings have appeared in ArtReview Asia, ARTFORUM China, LEAP, Ocula, The Art Newspaper China (TANC) and many other art publications. She was the Assistant Curator of the first Future, Future — Young Artists’ Experimental Film Project (2020) launched by Centre for Experimental Film (CEF) and the artist Yang Fudong. In 2019, she has received the second prize of the Sixth Edition of the International Awards for Art Criticism (IAAC). In 2017, she was appointed as the translator and academic associate of the 11th Award of Art China (AAC). Her most recent research interests lie on the landscapes of the Anthropocene, explicitly drawn the humanities into conversation with ecology to explore entanglements of human and nonhuman, life and nonlife.
