Debbie Tai is an experienced, focused and passionate IB language educational leader who is committed to bilingual education in international school management, authentic leadership and curriculum development.
Debbie Tai是一位经验丰富,专注且对国际文凭IB语言教学充满热情的教育领导者,她积极投身于国际学校管理、诚信领导力和双语课程的开发。
Debbie joins ISA Science City having most recently served as the Enhanced Language Program Coordinator at Wesley College in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to this, she was the Head of PYP Chinese at Discovery College in Hong Kong, and the Chairperson for Primary Chinese Curriculum Committee at ESF (English Schools Foundation, Hong Kong). Debbie continues to be a highly respected member of the IB Educator Network (IBEN), consulting as an IB workshop leader for teacher training and a Curriculum internationally.
在加入爱莎科学城之前,Debbie任职于澳大利亚墨尔本的卫斯理学院,担任强化语言课程协调员。再之前,曾任香港智新书院国际文凭小学项目(PYP)中文课程部门负责人,也是英基学校(ESF)小学汉语课程委员会主席。Debbie同时还是IB教育者网络(IBEN)备受推崇的成员之一,作为IB培训官,为全球的教师开展培训以及提供课程方面的咨询。

Why become a language teacher?
成为一名语言教师的初衷
I think language is everything. Language is in our thinking; language is between us when we communicate. Language is actually a media to make human beings lives better. I think it is a privilege and advantage that I know language and I can practice education and combine the two things together. I put my life and energy to work on language education every day. I think I’m very lucky.
我认为,语言贯穿生命的一切事物,它存在于我们的思维、交流以及人际之间。语言作为一种载体,使得人类的生活更加美好。因此,我认为自己对语言的了解是一种荣幸,亦是一项优势;与此同时,能把语言与教育相结合,将自己毕生的精力投身到语言教育工作中,是非常幸运的。

Why choose ISA Science City?
为何加入爱莎科学城学校?
That is a very interesting question. I chose this school specifically for 3 reasons. The first reason is the school culture and philosophy. I especially appreciate that the education group of ISA combines the best of Western education and the best of Chinese education together. That is the first attraction for me.
这是一个非常有意思的问题。与我而言,选择加入爱莎科学城学校有三个原因:第一点在于学校的文化与理念,我尤其欣赏爱莎国际教育集团将中西方教育的精粹相结合,为学生提供别具一格的课程体系,这是非常吸引我的地方。
The second attraction is actually the people at school: I love the leadership team. I also love how we can work together with the very professional and passionate teaching faculty. I feel like every day comimg to work with these wonderful people is a treat.
第二个吸引我的地方在于学校的人,即团队。我非常欣赏领导团队,也非常享受和专业、热情的教师们一起共事的时光。对于我来说,每天能够在学校与这些优秀的人在一起是一种享受。
The third one is actually where the school is. The school is in the Greater Bay Area. Since I started my international educator’s life, I have been working in this area, and I have seen how this area has grown so much. Since I moved back from Australia and I am now in this area again, I want to be part of it, and I don’t want to miss out. Guangzhou is the place to be, and I believe that actually I made the right choice being here.
第三点在于学校的地理位置——粤港澳大湾区。实际上自从我开始从事国际教育行业以来,我就在这里工作了,期间也见证了这块区域的巨大的变化。期间我曾离开这里去澳大利亚发展,现如今缘分又让我重新回到这里,因此我希望能够成为这个地区的一份子,不想错过这个宝贵的机会。我也相信,来到广州这块福地,是一个正确的人生选择。

Could you please describe
ISA Science City in 3 keywords?
请用三个关键词形容爱莎科学城
The 3 keywords for the ISA Science City, I think are innovation, leading and participation. I use the word “innovation”, not because we have a new building, but because we are a true IB education school. We bring IB education into this region and combine the best practice of international schooling and also the resources in the local region, and that’s innovation for us.
我认为形容爱莎科学城的三个关键词分别是创新、引领以及参与。首先我用了“创新”这个词,并非因为学校建筑是全新的,而在于爱莎是真正的IB教育的践行者,在IB课程体系的基础之上,将全球各大教育体系的成功经验与本土的教育资源(中国文化)相融合,这是我们学校真正意义上的“创新”所在。
Second one is leading. We aim for excellence, so that’s why in every area we position ourselves as leaders and we want to be that, and we want to do that.
第二个关键词是“引领”。我们的目标是追求卓越,这也是为何在各个方面,我们都把自己定位为领军者,并致力于通过行动去实现这个追求。
The third one is participation, a great school can’t be run by a small group of people, it is actually the participation of the community make it an excellent school. As for the participation here I’m talking about the true participation from our learners, and also the genuine participation (involvement) of our parent community. The last one of course is our passion and the commitment from our teachers and staff.
第三个词是“参与”,成就一所优秀的学校绝非单纯依靠一小部分人的经营,而是通过全体校园社区成员的共同努力。这里的成员包括学生和家长的真正参与,当然还有全校老师和员工对教育事业的热情以及承诺。

What do you expect from your
students in the first new semester?
您对学生在第一学期有怎样的期待
I would like them to enjoy this transition. Adapt to the new environment, new teachers, new expectation and become a participant and collaborate with the teachers inside the classroom. Really enjoy the process.
我希望学生能够沉浸、享受这个过渡的历程,适应新的环境、新的老师,在新的期待下成为积极的参与者,并在课堂中真正享受与老师一起合作学习的时光。
Second one is that I would like them to understand and become part of ISA Science City’s culture. Our culture is that we are in “one school” where we aim for excellence. We always put ourselves out there, we are not behind, we are in the front and we participate to do a good job. So I want them to really engage themselves with this culture.
其次,我希望我的学生能够领悟到学校的文化,并成为打造这种文化的一份子。学校是一个整体,我们都在这所学校中不断追求卓越。这是全体校园成员共同的使命,我们不能躲在背后,而是应该站在最前方,一步一个脚印做事。因此,我希望孩子们能够体会到这种校园文化,并成为这种文化的践行者。
The last one is that identity of ISASC students that we pursue the 4 pillars, which are academic, art, sports and community service. If I can expect anything, I would like my students to take action on each of the pillars and become real ISA students.
最后一点就是爱莎学子的独特气质。爱莎科学城学校有四大支柱,分别是学术、艺术、体育以及社区服务,这也是我们学校的特色。因此,如果说我对学生还有什么期待,那我希望他们能够积极参与这四个方面的学习,成为真正的爱莎人。
